Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several genuine changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the fountain and town hall remaining, and new seating and a playground. However, the response only partially summarises the plans: it gives no clear overview of the main pattern of redevelopment and omits important features such as the local artists’ gallery, plant beds in the northern area, and the conversion of the southern buildings into bars and restaurants. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the plant beds are not where the bandstand was, and the shops replace the eastern administrative buildings, not the fish restaurant and bar. The repeated supermarket point also takes space without adding information. Select the major changes accurately and group them into a concise overview and supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic sequencing, with changes introduced first and features that remain discussed later. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “Meanwhile” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several changes are combined in long, loosely connected sentences, and the relationship between locations is often unclear. For example, the sentence about the bandstand, plant beds and covered seating shifts between separate areas without clear organisation. “On the other hand” does not introduce a genuine contrast, while the supermarket change is repeated at the end. Organise the report by area or by what changed and what remained, and use linking words only when their meaning fits.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “replaced,” “covered seating,” “fountain,” and “administrative building,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description less precise: “encircled area,” “initiatives for development,” and “in the race of renovation” are unnatural in this context. There are also repeated basic terms such as “place” and “change,” and spelling errors including “demostrate,” “restuarant,” and “palced.” Use standard map-description language and precise location vocabulary, such as “surrounding area,” “redevelopment plans,” “on the eastern side,” and “to the south-west of the fountain.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use simple present and passive forms, as in “fish market is replaced by supermarket” and “administrative building is also removed.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships difficult to understand. Articles are often missing (“the fish market,” “a supermarket”), and tense and agreement are inconsistent, as in “further change occur” and “a children playground also took place.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also weak: several sentences run together, with missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise writing short, complete sentences first, then combine related information with accurate clauses—for example, “The fish market is replaced by a supermarket, while the town hall remains unchanged.”
