Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several major changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the administrative buildings being replaced by shops, and the history museum becoming a local artists’ gallery. You also note that the town hall and fountain remain. However, the account is incomplete and some details are inaccurate: the plant beds are not where the bandstand was; they are in the northern part of the square, while the playground replaces the bandstand’s location. The library and other changes are not clearly covered, and the overview is vague. The response also falls 22 words short of the 150-word minimum, which limits the detail available. Describe the main changes more precisely and include a fuller comparison of the square’s layout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an overview to details about 2014 and then changes in 2020. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “besides that” help signal relationships. However, progression is not consistently clear: the second paragraph mixes the overview with specific comparisons, and the final paragraph repeats the replacement of the administrative buildings with shops. Some connections are also unclear, particularly “In the place of bandstand they develop the plant beds,” which makes the sequence of changes difficult to follow. Organise the response into a concise overview followed by clearly grouped details, such as changes to buildings and changes within the square, and use references that make each location unambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a town-square plan, including “replaced,” “fountain,” “covered seating,” and “children playground.” This gives the reader a basic understanding of the developments. However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or repetitive, such as “few more changes,” “in the place of,” and “Bars are still same.” There are also spelling errors, including “alot,” “resturant,” “childern,” and “administative,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise map-description language and check spelling carefully. For example, use “was converted into” or “was replaced by” consistently, and name the specific areas rather than relying on general phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, errors occur frequently in basic sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “The two diagram shows” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “covered seating are also build” contains agreement and verb-form errors. The opening sentence also lacks a full stop, and several sentences run together after commas, as in “Overall, there are alot of changes … supermarket, In the place…”. Use complete sentences with consistent past and future forms, and check subject–verb agreement and articles. Shorter, accurately punctuated sentences would make the information clearer.
