Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies a few accurate changes: the fountain remains in the centre, the fish market is replaced by a supermarket, and the town hall stays in place. These are relevant main features, but the account is extremely limited and does not summarise most of the planned redevelopment, such as the gallery, plant beds, seating, playground, shops, or bars and restaurants. The overview, “the map show development,” is too vague to communicate the main pattern of change, and there is little comparison beyond the three points noted. The response is also 79 words below the required minimum, leaving too little detail to address the task adequately. To improve, describe the major changes across the square and compare the 2014 and 2020 layouts systematically.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening statement, an overview introduced by “overall,” and a final sentence about specific locations. The reader can also follow the sequence from the centre of the map to its northern side. However, the ideas are not developed into clear, complete paragraphs, and the progression is difficult to follow because the overview repeats the introduction rather than summarising the main changes. The final sentence combines several points without clear separation, while links between ideas are largely absent. Use a concise introduction, a distinct overview, and then group details by area or by what remains and what changes. Clear sentence boundaries and linking phrases would make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant map terms, including “fountain,” “Fish Market,” “supermarket,” and “town hall,” so the reader can identify some of the features being compared. However, the vocabulary is very limited and several word choices or spellings make the meaning unclear, as in “maw shoe” and “northan side.” Phrases such as “has some changes in make year” do not express the intended comparison naturally. There is little variety in language for describing locations or redevelopment. Build a bank of accurate map vocabulary, including “remains,” “is replaced by,” “to the north of,” and “is converted into,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response attempts simple statements and a comparison, for example, “the fountain are not chage” and “Fish Market replace by supermarket.” However, sentence structure and verb forms are frequently inaccurate, and these errors sometimes make relationships between features difficult to understand. The opening, “In this given map show town square,” lacks a clear subject and correctly formed verb; “town hall are not change” also has problems with agreement and verb construction. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, and several ideas run together without clear sentence boundaries. Practise forming complete sentences with a subject and verb, and use the present simple passive for planned changes, such as “The fish market is replaced by a supermarket.”
