Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the supermarket replacing the fish market, the fountain remaining central, and new facilities such as a playground and covered seating. This shows a relevant response to the plans. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: the town hall is in the north-east, not the south, and the fish restaurant and bar are on the southern edge rather than the west. The overview also says the plan adds facilities but does not clearly summarise the broader shift from older civic/commercial buildings to shops, restaurants and recreational spaces. To strengthen the response, report locations precisely and compare the main changes in a clear overview before describing details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of 2014 and 2020. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow, particularly in the final paragraph, where several changes are compressed into one sentence. Linking phrases such as “In 2014” and “In 2020” help, but connections between features are often unclear, and references such as “your area” do not clearly identify the place being discussed. Group the information by location or by what remains and what changes, and use shorter, clearly connected sentences to make comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “fountain,” “town hall,” “playground,” “covered seating,” and “administrative building.” These terms show awareness of the topic. However, vocabulary is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description difficult to understand, such as “socks” for shops, “deplobed,” and “diploft.” Phrases such as “at more facilities” and “the plan to make more convenient part” are also unnatural. Aim to use accurate location and change language, for example “is replaced by,” “is converted into,” and “to the east of.” Checking spelling and choosing standard map-description collocations will make your meaning clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to describe both maps using present and past references, and there are some simple sentence patterns that communicate individual features. However, grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between features unclear. Examples include “The plan to change and at more facilities,” which lacks a clear subject and correctly formed verb, and “The supermarket town hall and fountain it's not change,” where the sentence structure and verb form are faulty. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or inaccurate, as in “in North corner” and “in the west side.” Build accurate simple sentences first, such as “The town hall is in the north-east,” then practise joining them with clauses using “while” or “whereas.”
