Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the supermarket replacing the fish market, the gallery replacing the museum, shops replacing the administrative buildings, and the fountain remaining central. However, the overview is unclear and does not summarise the main pattern of redevelopment effectively. Some details are inaccurate: the library is not shown as removed, and the bandstand is replaced by a playground, not plant beds; the plant beds are in the northern part of the square. The covered seating and conversion of the southern buildings into bars and restaurants are mentioned only vaguely. The response is also 11 words below the required minimum. To strengthen the report, give a clear overview and describe the main changes accurately and with more specific locations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of changes, and some linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Further,” and “In addition” help signal relationships. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the body moves between locations and features without a clear spatial order. “More” is an awkward transition, while repeated “remain” statements make the connections feel mechanical. Some references are also unclear, particularly “in front of shops” and “in the front of restaurants,” which do not precisely locate the features. Organise the body by area—for example, northern and western changes, then the centre and southern/eastern areas—and use more precise linking and reference.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “convert,” “position,” “center,” and “administrative buildings,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the intended change unclear. For example, “covering area” does not describe the surrounding area, “children grounds” is not a natural label, and “bars restaurant” is imprecise. “Develop into” is also less suitable than a verb that clearly indicates replacement or conversion. Aim for accurate map-reporting phrases such as “is replaced by,” “is located to the east of,” and “the southern buildings are converted into bars and restaurants.” Check spelling and word forms as well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “In the beginning, history museum change into local artist gallery and remove the library.” However, errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “there is major change,” “town hall remain,” and “bandstand transform,” where the required articles or verb endings are missing. In “history museum change into local artist gallery and remove the library,” the passive construction is not formed correctly, and the subject of “remove” is unclear. Most sentences follow similar simple patterns, with limited accurate control of complex structures. Practise past-tense and passive forms, for example, “The fish market was replaced by a supermarket.”
