Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the broad topic and notes one accurate overall feature: the fountain remains in the centre. It also mentions several 2014 facilities, including the town hall, fish market, museum, library, administrative buildings and southern businesses. However, the account is incomplete and stops at “After comp”, so it gives no meaningful comparison with the 2020 plan and omits major changes such as the supermarket, gallery, playground, seating, shops and plant beds. The overview is too general (“numerous changes”) to summarise the main developments. The response is also 41 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to cover the task. Develop a complete overview and report the most important changes in both years.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an opening, an overview and a paragraph about 2014, which gives the reader some sense of sequence. However, progression is not sustained: the final paragraph begins “After comp” and ends abruptly, leaving the comparison unfinished. Within the 2014 description, locations are listed in a run-on sequence, and the comma and line break after “fish market” interrupt the flow. Linking is limited, with “However” used to introduce the unchanged fountain rather than a clear contrast. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview, the 2014 layout and the planned changes, and connect locations and comparisons with clear, accurate transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant map vocabulary, including “fountain”, “center”, “town hall”, “history museum” and “administration buildings”, so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is narrow and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “illustartes”, “neumers”, “diagrame”, “movever” and “freh resturant”. “Improvement” is also not the most neutral description of a plan; “redevelopment” or “changes” would be more suitable. The phrase “the side of the seafood” is unclear, and “areas” is too vague when describing individual facilities. Check spelling carefully and use precise location and development terms, such as “north-western section”, “replaced by” and “converted into”.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and longer descriptions, and the meaning of some locations can be understood. However, control of sentence structure and basic grammar is inconsistent. For example, “which are planing in 2014 and it will be completed in 2020” does not form a clear, correctly structured clause, while “the fountain are in the same place” has subject–verb disagreement. The sentence beginning “In 2014 the diagrame show” shifts tense incorrectly, and the sequence “there is a history museum and than the library” has faulty construction. Punctuation also makes the list difficult to follow. Practise complete sentences with consistent past and future forms, accurate subject–verb agreement, and clear punctuation.
