Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main purpose of the maps and report several relevant changes, including the fish market becoming a supermarket, the fountain remaining central, and the addition of a playground and covered seating. However, the overview is vague: phrases such as “mostly things had changed” do not clearly summarise the overall shift from commercial and civic buildings to leisure and retail uses. Some details are inaccurate or unclear, including “four entrance point” and “five to six room,” which are not supported by the map. Important changes are also omitted, such as the town hall remaining, the gallery replacing the history museum, and the administrative buildings becoming shops. A clearer overview and more precise comparisons would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has separate paragraphs for an introduction, overview, and descriptions of each map, so there is an attempt to organise the information by function and time. Some sequencing is also understandable, particularly the movement from the northern area to the southern side. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow, and ideas are linked mainly through repeated phrases such as “the map” and “the other.” Connectors including “then” and “and” are used mechanically, while references such as “the west side” and “two shops rooms” are not always clear. Grouping the changes by location or by what remained and what changed, then using more precise linking, would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “north side,” “center,” “fountain,” “supermarket,” and “covered seating area,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or repeated, such as “mostly things had changed,” “more added,” and “located.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “mesesum,” “moslty,” and “avalible,” which can make details harder to understand. Aim to use a wider set of accurate terms for describing locations and changes, such as “situated,” “replaced,” and “converted into,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe both maps and make comparisons, but sentence structures are mostly simple or joined with “and” and “then.” Frequent errors in sentence formation and verb forms sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “The maps illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the center have located fountain” lacks a correct verb pattern and article. Tense and clause construction are also problematic in “The map one was the 2014 had four entrance point.” Use clear present-tense forms for map descriptions, such as “The fountain is located in the centre,” and past or change-focused forms consistently when comparing the plans. Short, accurate sentences are a useful starting point before adding complex structures.
