Student answer (Band 5.5)

The figure represents a town squares and environment in 2014 and needs to be changed by 2020.

Overall, chidren's playground, covered seating, palnt beds and shops are the items that are included in the after year whereas, other places just change its position and some are not in the area.

Looking in to the figures of both, history museum is change as a local artists gallery and fish market as a supermarket and town hall, bar and fountain remain in same place in 2020. Similarly, adminstrative building in previous year is change as shops in different partition and entrance in after year.

Turning towards again in to the figures, upper side of fountain is build as plant beds and lower side has covered seating and right side has children playground in 2020 which was empty in 2014. Likewise, bar and resturants also have a great differences in 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the conversion of the fish market into a supermarket, the history museum into an artists’ gallery, and the addition of seating and a playground. However, the overview is unclear: saying that places “just change its position” does not accurately summarise the main pattern, since many facilities are replaced or repurposed while the fountain and town hall remain in place. Some details are also inaccurate or vague: the bar does not simply remain unchanged, and the plant beds are in the northern part rather than directly “upper side” of the fountain. The response is also two words below the required minimum. To strengthen the report, give a clear overview and describe the major changes more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details, and it uses linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Similarly,” and “Likewise.” This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is limited because the final two paragraphs repeat the same general pattern of describing locations without grouping changes clearly by area or by what remains versus what is replaced. Phrases such as “Looking in to the figures” and “Turning towards again in to the figures” are awkward and do not create effective transitions. Organise the report into a concise overview followed by logically grouped comparisons, and use clear references such as “In the northern section” or “Along the southern edge.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “town hall,” “fountain,” “covered seating,” and “children’s playground,” so the reader can identify several features. However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations make the description unclear. For example, “items that are included in the after year” is not a natural way to describe new facilities, while “great differences” is too general to communicate what changed. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “chidren’s,” “palnt beds,” “adminstrative,” and “resturants.” Use precise verbs such as “replaced,” “remained,” and “was converted into,” and check spelling carefully to make the map description more accurate and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison with “whereas” and clauses introduced by “which.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between features difficult to follow. Examples include “a town squares,” “history museum is change,” and “bar and fountain remain in same place,” which show problems with agreement, verb forms, and articles. The sentence beginning “Overall” also has an unclear structure, and “Looking in to the figures of both” is not formed naturally. Practise accurate past and passive forms for describing changes, such as “was replaced by” and “remained,” and build shorter, complete sentences before adding subordinate clauses.
