Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the supermarket replacing the fish market, the town hall remaining, and the gallery replacing the museum. You also mention the central fountain and new playground and seating. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: saying that many things were “not constructed” in 2014 does not capture the main transformation, and the final claim that the fish restaurant and bar remain unchanged conflicts with the plan, where the southern and south-western buildings become bars and restaurants. Some key features, such as the plant beds and the covered seating’s two locations, are omitted. A clearer overview of what stays, what is replaced, and how the square is redeveloped would make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two years. This helps the reader follow the broad comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to track because several locations are listed in long, loosely connected sentences, such as the 2014 description beginning “Linking with fish shop.” Connectors including “Moreover,” “In contrast,” and “Furthermore” show an effort to link ideas, but some are repetitive or do not clearly express the relationship between details. References such as “their” and “it” are also unclear. Grouping features by area and using precise location references would make the organisation more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “replaced,” “remains,” “town square,” and “covered seating,” and you attempt to describe locations with phrases such as “upper left hand side corner.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or imprecise, including “lots of things that is not constructed,” “new places and shops,” and “nearby aear.” Repeated use of “their was” also limits variety and makes some descriptions harder to understand. Spelling errors such as “fountian,” “bandstan,” and “remians” are noticeable. Build a more precise set of terms for map changes and locations, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the response generally communicates the broad comparison. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, particularly in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “their are lots of things that is not constructed” contains errors in both the subject and verb forms, while “there was an museum” uses an incorrect article. Several sentences run together or have unclear structures, as in “Linking with fish shop their was an museum with tha nearby it is an library.” Tense use also shifts between past and present when describing the maps. Practise accurate sentence patterns for describing locations and changes, and use consistent past forms for 2014 and planned or future forms for 2020.
