Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You introduce the topic, state that you will discuss both views, and give a position: recycling is important. However, the response does not actually explain the view that people should consume less, and the reasons for recycling are unclear and repeated rather than developed. For example, “good environments is growing” does not explain how recycling improves the environment, and the example about “good air services” is difficult to understand. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words: it contains 93 words, and 37 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To improve, address both sides directly, explain your opinion with relevant reasons and examples, and develop each main point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic overall shape: an opening paragraph introduces the topic and a second paragraph begins with “On the one hand.” The opening also signals that the essay will discuss both views. However, the response ends before the second view or a conclusion appears, so the progression is incomplete. Connections between ideas are often unclear: the example beginning “For example” repeats the claim about people recycling rather than illustrating it with a specific case. The linking words “while” and “one the one hand” suggest organisation, but they do not create a clear sequence of developed points. Build separate paragraphs for each view and your opinion, and use examples that clearly support the point immediately before them.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “environment,” “recycle,” “consume less,” and “individuals,” so the general subject is identifiable. However, the range is narrow and several phrases are repeated, particularly “more and more people,” “good,” and “better.” Some word choices and combinations are unclear or unnatural, such as “good air services” and “good environments is growing,” which make it difficult to understand the intended meaning. There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “peolpe” and “individual” where a plural is needed. Aim for more precise environmental vocabulary and avoid repeating general adjectives; for instance, explain effects using terms such as “reduce waste” or “improve air quality.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and a longer sentence beginning “because,” and the main topic can generally be followed. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, especially with agreement, sentence boundaries, and capitalisation. Examples include “more individual are choosing” and “choosing to recycle are important”; the subjects and verbs do not agree. Several sentences begin with lowercase words after a full stop, including “while” and “they,” and the second paragraph has similar errors after “On the one hand.” The sentence “one of the main reason are” also has problems with number and agreement. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and matching verb, and use a wider range of accurately controlled sentence patterns.
