Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, environment problems are becoming more serious, and many people are trying to protect the environment by recycling waste. While some people believe that recycling is an effective way to solve the environmental problems, others argue that we should reduce our consumption. In my opinion, both approaches are important but consuming less is more effective in long term.
On the one side, recycling plays an crucial role in protecting the environment. It allows people to reuse materials such as plastic, glass and metals instead of throwing them into waste. As a result less use of national resources to produce a new products. For example, recycling paper reduce the number of trees that need to be cut down. Furthermore, recycling can reduce pollution and save energy during manufacturing processes.
On the other hand, some people argue that recycling alone is not enough to protect the environment. I agree with this view becuase the best way to reduce waste is to consume fewer products. Nowadays, many people purchase unnessary products like extra clothes, shoes and much more things which result in a huge amount of waste. If people bought the things which are necessary for them, fewer natural resources will be used and less pollution will be produced. Furthermore, companies should manufacture durable products rather than encouraging coustomers to replace them frequently.
In conclusion, recycling is an effective method to reduce pollution, I beleive consuming fewer products equally important and more effective to run. Therefore companies should focus on reducing the unnecessary consumption as well as recycling material.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and give a clear opinion: recycling is useful, but reducing consumption is more effective in the long term. The two body paragraphs are relevant, with examples such as recycling paper to reduce tree-felling and buying fewer clothes and shoes to limit waste. This covers the task well, and your conclusion restates your position. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that recycling saves energy is not supported with an example, and the discussion of how companies can encourage durable products could be developed further. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms behind these claims and make the comparison between recycling and reduced consumption more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from recycling to reduced consumption is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” help distinguish the arguments. You also use cause-and-effect links, including “As a result” and “If people bought…”. At times, however, linking is somewhat mechanical, with “Furthermore” repeated, and the conclusion’s ideas are joined in a way that makes their relationship less clear. Some references, such as “this view,” are understandable but could be more precise. Varying transitions and using clearer sentence connections would make the flow more flexible and polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “recycling,” “natural resources,” “manufacturing processes,” and “durable products,” so the main ideas are communicated. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “unnecessary products” and “replace them frequently.” However, the range and control are uneven, with noticeable spelling and word-choice errors: “becuase,” “unnessary,” “coustomers,” and “beleive.” Some collocations are also awkward, including “environment problems,” “a huge amount of waste,” and “more effective to run.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and learn common environmental collocations, such as “environmental issues,” “generate waste,” and “in the long term.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including a conditional sentence (“If people bought the things which are necessary for them…”) and a contrast clause beginning “While some people believe…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include the article and agreement problems in “an crucial role” and “recycling paper reduce,” as well as “a new products.” The opening of the final paragraph also joins two independent clauses with only a comma: “recycling is an effective method to reduce pollution, I believe…”. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, singular and plural forms, and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside your existing complex sentences, would improve clarity.
