Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the role of recycling and the necessity of reducing consumption. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a clear position in the conclusion, the arguments in the body paragraphs are occasionally unclear due to awkward phrasing, such as the claim that recycling leads to 'less production in items.' The connection between recycling and reduced production is not fully explained. To improve, ensure that each point is supported by a clear, logical explanation rather than just a general statement. The example regarding North London is specific, which is a positive feature, but the link between the example and the broader argument could be more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use cohesive devices like 'To commence with,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, some transitions are mechanical or used incorrectly, such as 'Continuously' to start a sentence, which does not fit the context. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, making the flow of ideas feel slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that the relationship between sentences is always clear and logical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. You use some good topic-specific terms like 'recyclable products' and 'mass production.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'the culprit of environment is increasing' (which is unclear) and 'at the pick of the problem' (likely meaning 'at the peak' or 'the crux'). Some phrasing is also repetitive. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary to express your ideas clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a good start. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('one school of thought argue'), article usage, and sentence fragments ('Which not only reduce...'). Some sentences are difficult to parse because of these errors, such as 'the method of recycle is the extreme solution.' While these errors do not completely prevent communication, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the essay. Increasing your control over basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
