Student answer (Band 7.5)
Environmental pollution is the most important and biggest challenge faced by today's world. There are debates about whether recycling is enough for saving the planet or there is need of additional measures to be taken to save the mother nature. In my opinion, reprocessing the goods definitely helps to mitigate the issue but other initiatives like consuming less of natural resources and controlling the plastic waste can highly aid up to protect the Earth.
The ones who support recycling think that collecting, sorting and processing waste materials to transform them to new, useable products helps to reduce the landfill waste and cuts down on harmful climatic emissions. This process, undoubtedly, is a major contribution to preserve the environment which is also evident from the recent studies by the American society of natural resources, who revealed that over the past decade, the quality of air has significantly improved in the New York with people more focused on recycling rather than dumping the waste into garbage.
On the other hand, apart from recycle, there are number of measures that need to be strictly imposed by the government and local bodies to lower the harmful effect on environment. There should be minimum consumption of plastic material in domestic and industrial settings as it is not recyclable and creates toxicity in air and soil upon burning or dumping. Moreover, less use of natural resources and less mining prevents acid mine drainage from spilling into soil making the environment more clean space to live.
In my opinion, there should be strict laws to prevent environmental damage in addition to recycling which over the period of time will improve the quality of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all parts of the prompt by discussing both the importance of recycling and the necessity of reducing consumption. Your position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, although the development of the second viewpoint could be slightly more detailed. For example, while you mention plastic consumption and mining, providing a more concrete real-world example of how reduced consumption has worked in a specific country or industry would have strengthened your argument further. Overall, you have provided a balanced discussion that meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In my opinion' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main viewpoints. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in referencing, such as 'The ones who support recycling'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence of your writing to a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'mitigate', 'reprocessing', and 'toxicity'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'aid up to protect' and 'more clean space to live', which sound slightly unnatural. While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—rather than just individual synonyms. Your spelling is accurate throughout the text, which is a positive aspect of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'there is need of additional measures' (missing article), 'in the New York' (incorrect article usage), and 'apart from recycle' (should be 'recycling'). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly clunky, such as 'the most important and biggest challenge'. You have good control over basic grammar, but to reach a higher band, you should aim for more error-free complex sentences and pay closer attention to articles and prepositional phrases.
