Student answer (Band 5.5)

The debate for the environment is increasing significantly. An increasing number of people choose to recycle waste, while others think that recycling is not enough because they believe we need to eat less in the environment. Although both perspectives have their merits, I will discuss both views and give my opinion why I believe that we need to consume less instead of recycling the environment.

On the one hand, an increasing number of citizens choose to recycle bins in the environment as a concern because it prevents environmental degradation. There are a lot of activities that are carried out by individuals in the environment, which often pollute it and cause environmental problems such as erosion. It has been suggested by a group of individuals to find a suitable place to put the usable filters in order to protect the ecosystem from issues arising from climate change. As a result, citizens are prone to diseases which often disrupt their personal well being. For instance, many cities around the world are prone to flooding if quick actions are not take into considerations.

On the other hand, a certain number of individuals think that recycling the environment is not enough instead we have to eat less in the environment because it promotes an hostile environment. This is largely because human behavior in the environment contribute both negatively and positively for the inhabitants which serves as a catalyst in promoting sustainable development in the environment. If citizens prefer to eat less and care more for the environment then an environment free from diseases is achievable.

In my opinion, recycling only is not a good concern for the environment instead we need to know when, how, and what type of activities we do in it. In many part of the world today, state leaders have set up some principles that citizens need to follow in protecting the environment which will mitigate climate crisis. Consuming less is a vital step in creating an ecosystem that is ideal for the personal wellbeing of the people. since environmental degradation is a pervasive issue, the best way to show concern about protecting it is through less human activities that will fight against environmental crisis.

In conclusion, the concern about how the environment should be protected is a contentious one because there are different perspectives about it. Although recycling waste or filter in the environment is significance in protecting the environment from climate crisis such as flooding, erosion etc. consuming less is the best behavior that citizens need to do in creating and environment that is free from diseases and danger. Therefore, consuming less is a great concern in safeguarding the ecosystem.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is hampered by significant confusion regarding the prompt's core concept. You repeatedly use the phrase 'eat less' when the prompt refers to 'consuming less' (in terms of goods and resources). This misunderstanding makes your arguments about 'eating less' in the environment illogical and off-topic. While you attempt to discuss recycling and consumption, the lack of clarity regarding what 'consuming less' actually entails prevents a fully developed argument. To improve, ensure you interpret the prompt's terminology accurately before drafting your response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion.' However, the progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive vocabulary. For instance, the phrase 'in the environment' is used excessively and often incorrectly, which disrupts the flow of your arguments. While the paragraphing is sufficient, the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weakened by the lack of precise logical links between your claims and your supporting examples.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on generic phrases like 'in the environment' and 'activities,' which do not add precision to your writing. There are also significant collocation errors, such as 'recycle bins' (you recycle waste, not bins) and the persistent misuse of 'eat less' instead of 'consume less.' While you attempt to use some academic vocabulary like 'mitigate' and 'pervasive,' the overall range is restricted, and the frequent misuse of words occasionally impedes the clarity of your message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an ability to use complex sentence structures, such as 'Although both perspectives have their merits, I will discuss...' and 'If citizens prefer to eat less... then an environment... is achievable.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('human behavior... contribute'), incorrect verb forms ('actions are not take into considerations'), and awkward phrasing. While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
