Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While you attempt to address both views, the development of ideas is inconsistent. The discussion on consuming less is particularly underdeveloped and lacks logical depth, as the argument that it is 'impossible' to reduce consumption is not well-supported. Furthermore, the conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a clear summary of your position. To improve, ensure you fully develop each body paragraph with specific examples and complete your thoughts to provide a balanced discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Contrarily', the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or confusing. The paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the overall structure. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between 'these crises' and the preceding sentences is vague. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring a complete, well-structured conclusion would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a reasonable range of vocabulary, such as 'hazardous', 'prevalent', and 'meticulous'. However, there are instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'a various number of pros' (should be 'a variety of pros') and 'native's view' (which is contextually incorrect). Some phrasing is repetitive, and the vocabulary lacks the precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using collocations more accurately and expanding your range of academic vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'The environmental concerns are soaring' is slightly unnatural, and 'Although...; however,' is a punctuation error as these are redundant conjunctions. There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement, such as 'a various number of'. While these errors do not always impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall clarity. You should focus on mastering basic sentence structure and punctuation rules before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
