Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's modern world, environmental concern are growing too much that human beings are doing more recycle, while some fellows believe that it is not the only solution for better environment, they should also focus on less consumption. In this essay, I will discuss both views and explain why I think we should less consume to solve environmental issues.

On the one hand, recycling is the best option for better environment. Some people always buys things that they can do recycle. Nowadays companies are making sustainable products, as well as they also offering their customers discounts and vouchers for recycling materials. For example, Victorian government has open the stores that do the bottle recycling and give the people money for 10 cent for every bottle they put into recycle. By taking these type of steps government should also encourage people to contribute for better environment.

On the other hand, some people argue that we should also consume less. Fuel consumption is playing the major role in environmental disruption. People should opt for public transport in everyday lifestyle. Companies should have take care about their emission energy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both views and state an opinion, the arguments are underdeveloped. For instance, the second paragraph mentions recycling incentives but lacks a deep analysis of why it might be insufficient. The third paragraph introduces fuel consumption but stops abruptly without a concluding summary or a full exploration of the 'consume less' argument. To improve, you must expand your points with more detailed explanations and examples to reach the required length and provide a more comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in perspective. However, the progression of ideas is limited by the brevity of the text. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the lack of a concluding paragraph makes the overall structure feel incomplete. To achieve a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked more fluidly using a wider variety of cohesive devices, and always include a clear conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple phrasing, such as 'doing more recycle' (which is grammatically incorrect) and 'better environment'. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary like 'sustainable products' and 'emission energy', but these are not always used in the most natural way. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and precise terminology related to environmental issues, and ensure you use the correct word forms (e.g., 'recycling' instead of 'recycle' as a noun).

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of the text. Examples include 'environmental concern are growing' (subject-verb agreement), 'Some people always buys things' (subject-verb agreement), and 'Companies should have take care' (incorrect modal structure). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs. Incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, will also help demonstrate better control over grammar.
