Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, concern related to environment is increasing, many people are choosing recycle method. However, some people suggest that recycling is enough, we need to consume less. I partially agree with the both viewpoints.

To substantiate my point of view, I would hereby put certain logics. Firstly, people who believes that recycling is enough method to control environment problems. It helps to reduce waste in the society. If people recycle the products such paper, plastic, bottle, it reduce to wastage of it and reduces the wastage on landfills. For instance, if we recycle the paper, it will help reduce the cutting of trees such as deforestation and recycle of plastic helps to reduce land pollution.

As a result, recycling method is useful for controlling pollution on earth. Another benefit is that it is easy to adapt. Indeed, recycling method is easy to follow because no much technology or money is required.

In the society, people can separate paper, plastic, glass and metal and put them into different recycling bin. This does not require much efforts and time. Also, people can develop good habits while reducing waste and reduce the amount of waste going to landfills.

In contrast, people who belong to another school of thought argue that people should consume less. It helps to save the natural resources. When people buy new products, factories need fresh raw materials such as wood, oil. This helps prevent the overuse of natural resources. For example, if people buy less clothes and furniture, fewer trees are needed to make new products.

Therefore, consuming less helps to save natural resources, which is beneficial for future generations. Another benefit is consuming less, helps people to save money. If people avoid buying new products, they can reduce their daily expenses and save money for future. Ultimately, it will improve financial stability in the society.

In conclusion, although recycling is an effective way to reduce waste and protect the environment, consuming less is also essential. In fact, both methods are beneficial and I agree with the both views.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response discusses both viewpoints effectively, addressing the topic and providing relevant examples. The writer presents arguments supporting recycling and the need to consume less. However, the introduction's phrasing is confusing ('recycling is enough'), which could mislead readers. The overall view is conveyed clearly, marking a reasonable balance between the two perspectives but could have benefited from more developed ideas or examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a clear structure with distinct paragraphs for different ideas, aiding coherence. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and grammar that disrupt the flow, such as 'I would hereby put certain logics' and 'this helps prevent the overuse of natural resources'. Despite these issues, the use of cohesive devices like 'in contrast' and 'as a result' helps in guiding the reader through the discussion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary demonstrates a fair range, with some subject-specific terms like 'pollution', 'recycle', and 'natural resources' used appropriately. However, collocations are occasionally awkward (‘recycle method’ should be ‘recycling’), and some phrases lack precision (‘belong to another school of thought’ could be more straightforward). More varied and sophisticated vocabulary could enhance clarity and effectiveness in conveying ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The grammatical range is decent, with a variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences. However, there are noticeable errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('people who believes') and incorrect verb forms ('recycle the products such paper'). Overall, while the meaning is generally clear, these errors affect the fluency and accuracy of the writing, making it less polished than it could be.

Overall feedback

Your essay demonstrates a clear understanding of the task, presenting arguments for both recycling and reducing consumption effectively. To improve, focus on enhancing your sentence structure for better clarity; for instance, ensure subject-verb agreement and revise awkward phrases. Expand your vocabulary to include more sophisticated terms and phrases, as this will strengthen your ideas and arguments. Overall, your viewpoints are valid, but refining language use will elevate the quality of your writing.
