Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to address the prompt effectively. While it mentions recycling and consumption, it does not discuss both views in a balanced or structured manner. Instead, the essay drifts into a disconnected rant about industrial pollution, food safety, and corruption. The prompt asks for a discussion on whether recycling is sufficient compared to reducing consumption, but the student provides no clear position or logical development of these arguments. The ideas are largely irrelevant to the specific task instructions, and the lack of a coherent structure makes it difficult to identify a clear argument. Consequently, the response does not meet the requirements for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks paragraphing, appearing as a single, dense block of text. There is no logical progression of ideas; the transition from recycling to industrial pollution and then to street food safety is abrupt and confusing. Cohesive devices are almost entirely absent, and where they are used, they are ineffective. The lack of sentence boundaries and the repetitive use of 'and' to connect unrelated clauses make the text difficult to follow. The overall structure is disorganized, failing to guide the reader through the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and frequently inaccurate. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'resoursess' (resources), 'indrustry' (industry), 'polution' (pollution), 'durtyness' (dirtiness), 'revers' (rivers), 'wast' (waste), 'cemicals' (chemicals), and 'presurvatives' (preservatives). These errors, combined with the misuse of words like 'destroy' instead of 'decompose' or 'break down', significantly hinder communication. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the persistent spelling mistakes make the text difficult to read.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical control is very weak. The text consists of long, run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation, which makes the meaning unclear. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the peopls are try', 'most of the wast is not recycling'), article usage, and sentence structure. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are consistently faulty, leading to confusion. The lack of basic punctuation, such as periods to separate thoughts, is a major issue that prevents the reader from understanding the intended message clearly.
