Student answer (Band 6.0)

The environmental concerns are growing at a faster pace. Many people are choosing recycling as the primary prevention method while others argue that overconsumption is the key factor for the issue. This essay will discuss both perspectives before stating my opinion.

Proponents of recycling are often think that it is the only way of protecting nature. A growing number of population is engaged in recycling methods, as it offers greater benefits to society. For instance, recycling plastic products will result in alternate, new, and reusable materials which conversely improve the quality of nature. Another benefit of product recycling is; it avoids large waste disposal which consequently results in healthier communities as it provides a safer environment to live on.

While the opponents believe that there are several alternatives in order to save nature. Many of them advised not to over rely on natural resources, as they were in a state of depletion almost. Fossil fuels, for example, in today's modern life every individual is choosing to travel on their own vehicles instead of commuting through electric public transport which consumes significant amount of fuel and contributes to the depletion of essential resources. Therefore, less consumption offer greater safety to our natural resources and enables them to supply for future generations.

In my opinion, although recycling has a major impact on environmental conservation by eliminating the large amounts of waste disposal, I believe less consumption will have a lasting effect of its prevention by saving essential resources and supplying them to further generations.

In conclusion, both perspectives have a beneficial impact on environment and provides a safe and quality nature for future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of recycling for waste management and the importance of reducing consumption to preserve resources. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding fossil fuels is a bit disjointed and could have been more clearly linked to the concept of 'consuming less'. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments would benefit from more depth and specific examples to reach a higher band. Overall, the task requirements are met, but the analysis remains somewhat superficial.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the phrase 'which conversely improve' or the semicolon usage in 'Another benefit of product recycling is; it avoids'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The transition between the discussion of recycling and the argument for reduced consumption is functional but lacks sophisticated linking. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'environmental conservation', 'depletion', and 'fossil fuels'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'primary prevention method' instead of 'primary strategy' or 'quality of nature' instead of 'environmental quality'. The phrase 'a growing number of population' is also non-standard. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands, and some expressions feel slightly unnatural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'Proponents of recycling are often think' (incorrect verb form) and 'less consumption offer greater safety' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly the misuse of the semicolon. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentence structures are constructed accurately.
