Student answer (Band 5.5)

Anxiety for the environment is escalating and more and more people are opting to recycle. But some people believe that recycling is not sufficient. They preferred to consume less.

In this modern era of development, the conservation of environment should be major concern for all the individuals who inhabit it by opting different techniques in which recycling is the major contributing factor.

But on the other hand, reducing the consumption of environmental resources can also safe the environment. In this essay, I will discuss about both the aspects and would also describe my views.

From my perspective, there should be implementation of 3R strategies for the conservation of our rapidly growing environment. The strategy includes the 3 techniques such as Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. So, I strongly believe that environmental resources such as light, energy, water and other natural resources such as coal, oil and gas could be reserved by reducing their consumption. As we know, in foreseeable future, due to increasing population around the globe, the demand for these resources would be increased and we should have the adequate resources to meet the needs of individuals.

On the other hand, Reuse and Recycling could also be the major contributing factors for the security of environment to make it more suitable habitat for all the living species. For example if we reuse the plastic bottle of soft drinks after wash for water filling we can reduce the consumption of plastic similarly the recycling plastic can result in the production of useful products such as clothing, furniture, construction materials, and new packaging, which further results in the conservation of environment.

In conclusion, the wise use of natural resources can make the environment well equipped and more suitable for future generations to survive and grow as well as the less consumption and reliable public trasnsport can also make the

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views—recycling and consuming less—and provides a personal opinion. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While you introduce the 3R strategy, the discussion of 'consuming less' is less detailed than the section on recycling. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of your position. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are balanced in terms of depth and that your conclusion is fully articulated to reinforce your main argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'For example' to link your points. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, and the abrupt ending significantly impacts the overall coherence of the piece. The referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a complete, well-structured conclusion would improve the score in this area.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'conservation,' 'foreseeable future,' and 'adequate resources.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'safe the environment' (should be 'save') and 'Anxiety for the environment' (a more natural choice would be 'Concern for the environment'). Some phrasing is slightly repetitive, and the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'They preferred to consume less' (tense inconsistency), 'the demand... would be increased' (passive voice misuse), and 'after wash' (should be 'after washing'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the incomplete final sentence is a major issue. While the errors do not usually impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage to enhance your accuracy.
