Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both views outlined in the prompt (recycling versus consuming less) and states a personal opinion, fitting into the Band 5 descriptor. However, the task is only addressed partially due to significant misunderstandings and underdeveloped arguments. For instance, the student struggles to clearly articulate the view that we need to consume less, instead confusing the recycling process with the actual act of consumption or burning. The discussion around industries using plastic and the economic benefits to sellers lacks clarity and sufficient extension. The position is stated in the introduction as being in favour of recycling, but the ideas supporting it remain limited, disjointed, and underdeveloped, leading to a weak overall development of the task prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The text exhibits severe deficiencies in organization and cohesion, aligning with a Band 4 or 5 score. Although paragraph breaks are attempted, the overall progression of ideas lacks logical flow. Cohesive devices are either misused or absent, resulting in disjointed sentences. For example, phrases like 'Initiating with the point of supporting' and 'On its contrasting side' are unnatural and mechanically applied. Referencing and pronoun use are frequently unclear, such as 'it has become a topic of debate among people this essay will compare...', which creates run-on structures and hampers readability. Furthermore, the transitions between sentences within paragraphs fail to create a smooth, coherent narrative.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The lexical resource is limited and frequently inaccurate, placing the response at a Band 4. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'unquestionably' and 'stratosphere layer', but these are often used with inappropriate collocations or incorrect word forms. There are numerous word choice errors that impede communication, such as 'marketing criteria', 'lowest sellers' instead of informal collectors or vendors, and 'economic ratio'. Spelling and morphological issues are also prevalent throughout the text, including 'burring' instead of burning and 'machineries' as an incorrect plural countable noun. The vocabulary range remains basic and repetitive, causing strain for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical range and accuracy are weak, characterized by a high frequency of basic errors that frequently distort meaning. The majority of sentences contain major structural errors, including missing subjects, incorrect verb tenses, and severe punctuation faults like comma splices and missing capitalization at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'therefore, People think...'). Complex sentence forms are attempted but are almost entirely faulty, such as the convoluted thesis statement in the introduction. Simple sentences also contain fundamental errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Industries made such type of machineries that control'). These pervasive errors place the response firmly in the Band 4 category.
