Student answer (Band 6.0)

In current times, environmental concerns are growing more and more leading to people choosing to recycle though many people say that just recycling is not enough and we should consume less too. In my opinion, we should consume less too, as there are many such marterial that can't be recycled and less cosumption leds to less byproduct waste.

Recycle is not a fit-to-all solution to all environment problems. Firstly, every material is not recycleable or can't be recycled several times. For instance, due to increase in the electric cars in the market, there is a increase in lithium batteries which are not recycleable causing environmental issues. Secondly, If we start cousming less overall waste product will go down too reducing the load on recycling. There is lot of plastic waste in the remote location which is big issue, and reducing it's usage will make the recycling faster.

Thought there may be issue with Recycling, it still is preety enivornmental friendly. Initialy, Recycling works best for many products as it reduces the wast. for example, many petroleum product are recycleable and can be recycled mutiple time reducing there effect to the world. Another such advantage is, recycleing a material does require a lot of energy. For instance, to recycle a jeans, the material is shreadded, washed and sewed back to a new jeans.

In my conclusion, consuming less product will led to less byproduct waste that needs to be recycled hence protecting the environment. On the other hand, recycle is still a really good environmental friendly way to deal with the waste at large.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views (recycling and consuming less) and presenting a clear personal position throughout the response. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning electric vehicle lithium batteries and clothing recycling. For instance, the writer notes, 'due to increase in the electric cars in the market, there is a increase in lithium batteries which are not recycleable causing environmental issues.' However, there is a tendency to over-generalise or under-develop certain arguments, and some points are slightly repetitive, such as the concluding summaries echoing earlier thoughts. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 6.5, which rounds to a Band 6.0 based on standard whole or half-band increments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing separate arguments, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and faulty. For example, transitional phrases like 'Thought there may be issue' contain spelling errors ('Thought' instead of 'Though'), and referencing can be repetitive or unclear, such as 'Recycle is not a fit-to-all solution'. While logical progression is present, cohesive devices are not always used with high flexibility or precision. These features align well with the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'byproduct waste', 'environmental friendly', and 'petroleum product'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'marterial' instead of 'material', 'cosumption' instead of 'consumption', 'leds' instead of 'leads', 'recycleable' instead of 'recyclable', 'cousming' instead of 'consuming', 'preety' instead of 'pretty', 'enivornmental' instead of 'environmental', 'Initialy' instead of 'Initially', 'mutiple' instead of 'multiple', and 'shreadded' instead of 'shredded'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct multi-clause sentences, as seen in 'In my opinion, we should consume less too, as there are many such marterial that can't be recycled and less cosumption leds to less byproduct waste.' However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('less cosumption leds', 'there is a increase'), article misuse ('due to increase', 'a big issue'), and awkward phrasing ('recycleing a material does require a lot of energy' followed by an example that contradicts this premise). Because errors occur frequently across the text, a Band 5.5 is appropriate.
