Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years , environmental awareness has increased significantly, leading many individuals to adopt recycling as a way to protect the planet However, others argue that simply recycling waste is insufficient and that we must reduce our consumption altogather. This essay will discuss both prespectivesbefore concluding that a combinationof both approaches is necessary, with the greater emphasis on consuming less.
On the one hand, recycling is a positive and practical step.It helps to divert waste from landfill sites and reduce the need to extractnew raw materials. For example Recycling paper saves trees , and recycling plastic reduce oil concumption.Furthermore , the recycling industry creates jobs and is relatively easy for ordinary people to participate in.In cities like lahore, for instans , many house hold seperate there waste .Nevertheless recycling is has their limitations . the process it self consume energy, and not all materials ,can be recycled
On the other hand , proponrnts of reduced consumption argue that preventation is better then cure .The modern throwaway culture, charaterized by fast fastion and single-use packaging, is depleting natural resources at an alarming rate. if people bought fewer clothes , avoided excessive packagingf , and reduces food waste , the amount of waste generated would fall dramatocally in the first place .This approach directly lower our carbon footprint and promotes a more sustainable lifestyle.
In my opinion , while recycling is commendable , it is not enough on it own.The most effective strategy would be to priorotize consumingless and then recycle whatever waste remains. If we continue to consume excessively , we will never be able to recyle our way out of the environmental crisis.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt. It discusses both views—that recycling is sufficient and that consuming less is necessary—and clearly states the writer's own opinion from the introduction through to the conclusion. Main ideas are extended and supported, such as explaining how recycling diverts waste from landfills and how the modern throwaway culture depletes natural resources. Although some arguments could be further expanded with deeper examples, the overall coverage is solid. The student presents a clear position throughout, ensuring the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organization. Information is divided into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a summarizing conclusion. Cohesive devices are used adequately to connect ideas, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore'. However, there are some mechanical issues and missing spaces around punctuation marks (e.g., spacing errors before commas and periods) that detract from seamless flow, placing this criterion solidly in the Band 6 to 7 range.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including terms like 'environmental awareness', 'landfill sites', 'raw materials', 'carbon footprint', and 'sustainable lifestyle'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though these are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'altogather', 'prespectives', 'proponrnts', 'preventation', 'charaterized', and 'priorotize'. Despite these slips, communication is never impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient for the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures like 'if people bought fewer clothes... the amount of waste generated would fall dramatically'. However, there are frequent errors in punctuation (missing spaces after punctuation and erratic capitalization) and minor grammatical slips, such as 'recycling is has their limitations' and 'lower our carbon footprint' (instead of lowers). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the score from reaching a higher band due to persistent mechanical and structural inaccuracies.
