Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, environemntal concerns are becoming increasingly important and many people are trying to readuce waster by recycling. However, some argue that recying alone cannot sovle environment problem and that people should also reduce their consumption. This essay will discuss both view, and i believe that reducing consumption is more effective when combined with recycling.
On the one hand, recycling can play important role protecting the environment. It allows materials such as paper, plastic, glass and metal to be processed and used again instead of being sent to carbage. This can reduce the amount of waste produced and save natural resources. For example, recycling paper means that fewer tree need to be cut town to produce new paper. In addition, recycling can encourage people to become more environmentally responsible and develop sustainable habites.
On the other hand, recycling is not sufficient if people contiue to wastage large quantites of products. Many products require considerable amountss of energy, water and raw materials during their production and transportation. Furthermore, not all waste can be recycled effectively, and some materials may be recycled only a limited number of times. Therefore, reducing unnecessary consumption can prevent waster from bieng created in the first place. For instance people can buy durable clothes, repair electronic devices rather than replacing them and avoid unnesessary single use plastic products.
In my opinion, both approaches are necessary, but reducing consumption shold receive greater attention and benefits. Recycling deails with waster after products have already been used, whereas consuming less can reeudct the demand raw materials.
In conclusion, although recycling is an effective way to manage waste and conserve resources, it cannot solve environmental problems on its own. Reducing unnecessary consumption, together with responsible recycling, is a more comprehensive approach to protecting the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on recycling and consumption while clearly stating a personal opinion. In the introduction, the writer outlines their stance, which is maintained throughout the essay. The body paragraphs present relevant arguments for both recycling and reducing consumption, providing examples such as processing paper, glass, and metal, as well as buying durable clothes and repairing electronic devices. Ideas are extended and supported adequately, though some points could have been pushed further into deeper explanations. Nevertheless, all requirements of the task are met effectively, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information and ideas are divided into appropriate paragraphs, following a traditional introduction, two body paragraphs discussing each viewpoint, a viewpoint-specific discussion, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively to guide the reader, such as On the one hand, On the other hand, In my opinion, and In conclusion. However, there are minor cohesion issues and occasional typographical slips, such as referring to 'both view' instead of 'both views', and some referencing that feels slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, securing a solid Band 7 rating.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and subject-specific terms such as 'sustainable habits', 'natural resources', and 'comprehensive approach'. However, there are numerous spelling errors and lexical inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'environemntal', 'readuce waster', 'recying', 'sovle', 'carbage', 'tree', 'habites', 'contiue to wastage', 'amountss', 'bieng', 'unnesessary', 'shold', 'deails', and 'reeudct'. While communication is rarely impeded because these errors are mostly mechanical slips, the frequency of spelling mistakes prevents the vocabulary score from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at conditional or multi-clause structures such as 'Although recycling is an effective way to manage waste and conserve resources, it cannot solve environmental problems on its own.' There are several grammatical errors and punctuation or capitalization slips, including lowercase 'i', 'tree need to be cut town', 'waste can be recycled' versus 'waster from bieng created', and 'demand raw materials' missing a preposition. Despite these errors, the sentences remain largely understandable, and a good mix of structures is maintained, justifying a Band 6.0 rating.
