Student answer (Band 5.0)

nowdays, Concern for the environment is growing and more and more people are choosing to recycle. But some people suggest that recycling is not enough. they belive we need to consume less. so we will discuss this essay and give my opinion.

on the one hand , i reagrded this development is a postive. mamy peoplr reduce the population and growing the environment. i think this a very good and i am stand with you to reduce pollution and grow the evironment. reduce theenvioronment like a recyle the plastic, paper ,glass. like don't waste the plastic recycle the plastic paper and glass and others. in my opinion this a postive development.

on the other hand, grow the environment is very important. like we don't cut the tree, always clean the roads and parks and through the garbage into a garbage box. we should plant 10 trees ever six months. always care the tress and plants. they gave me a fresh air.if a person frequently buys new cloths and throws away old ones, recycling the unwanted clothes does not remove the evironmentsal impactof producing those clothes in the first place.therefore, people should try to buy only what they really need, reuse products and avoid unnecessary products. both recycling and reducing consumption are necessary, but reducing unnecessary consumptiom should recevie greator attention.

On the way of conclusion, people always recyle the plastic and glass and others. people always grow the environment. they gave me fresh air. we should always plant trees in every six months.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both recycling and the need to consume less, while also providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is uneven and somewhat confused by language issues. In the second body paragraph, the student makes a good relevant point about clothing production: 'recycling the unwanted clothes does not remove the evironmentsal impact of producing those clothes in the first place.' This demonstrates an understanding of the core debate. Nevertheless, the position is often obscured by awkward phrasing, such as 'grow the environment,' which conflates conservation with the literal growth of plants. While all parts of the task are touched upon, the lack of clear elaboration and occasional digressions into repetitive advice about planting trees limit the depth of task response, placing it firmly at Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which provides a basic structural framework, but the overall organization lacks logical progression and smooth transitions. The introduction relies on meta-language like 'so we will discuss this essay,' which is inappropriate for an academic essay. Cohesive devices are generally basic, repetitive, or inaccurate. For instance, transitional phrases such as 'on the one hand' and 'on the other hand' are used, but they do not properly introduce balanced opposing arguments due to conceptual confusion. Referencing is also weak, as seen in the phrase 'they gave me a fresh air,' where the pronoun antecedent is unclear. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is frequently broken by disjointed sentences, resulting in a Band 5 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very limited and often inappropriate for an academic context. The student repeats basic terms such as 'recycle,' 'plastic,' 'glass,' and 'environment' frequently. There are also numerous lexical errors and incorrect collocations, such as 'grow the environment' instead of 'protect the environment' or 'preserve nature,' and 'consumptiom' (spelling error). Other phrases like 'clean the roads' show a very basic word choice. While the student does attempt some less common vocabulary towards the middle of the essay—such as 'unnecessary products' and 'environmental impact'—the high frequency of basic errors, misspellings, and inappropriate word choices restricts the score to Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on positive achievement of basic meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The writing contains a mix of simple sentences and flawed complex structures. There are frequent punctuation and capitalization errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('nowdays,' 'on the one hand , i reagrded...'). Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are major issues; for example, 'they belive,' 'i reagrded this development is a postive,' and 'they gave me a fresh air' (mixing past tense with a general truth). Complex structures are attempted—such as conditional or relative clauses like 'if a person frequently buys new cloths...'—but they contain spelling mistakes ('cloths') and structural awkwardness. Frequent errors cause strain for the reader, aligning with the Band 4 descriptor.
