Student answer (Band 4.5)

Concern for the environment is growing and more and more people are choosing to recycle. But some people suggest that recycling is not enough.

So as we know about the plastic harmful and dangerous effects on the environment now we should make some important changes. The suggestion which to control the production is very useful and important. Because if we don't reduce it's production it's prove to be very harmful and serious issue. But it's very serious is that it may cause about cancer it is the basic factor to produce cancer and about 40 percent plus cancers are to produced by using plastic and it's a serious issue because the cancer is the only disease that can't be treated and the people who were suffered from this disease were very difficult to be survived. So to reduce it's production is very necessary change which is very important.

But if we talk about it's consumption so it's must be reduced and very important to make it necessary. So if we don't reduce it's use and it's may become very serious cause which is not to be replace. So it's recycle is very important because if we don't recycle it then it become very serious and dangerous issue. So plastic must be recycled and it should be recycle. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding recycling and consuming less, focusing heavily on plastic and health concerns. However, the task is only partially addressed because the student fails to properly discuss both views in a balanced manner, providing an underdeveloped argument that drifts into unsupported medical claims about cancer. Furthermore, the response is cut off prematurely at 241 words, which falls short of the mandatory 250-word minimum requirement. Consequently, this negative impact on task completion pulls the band score down into the lower range. To improve, the writer must ensure all parts of the prompt are explicitly explored and maintain a word count above the minimum.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The organizational structure of the essay is weak. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with the main body text crammed into overly long, rambling paragraphs that lack clear topic sentences. While the writer uses basic cohesive devices such as 'So', 'Because', and 'But', these are massively overused and often placed inappropriately at the beginning of sentences, creating a mechanical and repetitive reading flow. Referencing pronouns like 'it' are frequently ambiguous, making it difficult for the reader to track the arguments. There is no clear overall progression of ideas, resulting in a disorganized text that requires a much higher degree of logical sequencing and paragraph separation to meet higher band requirements.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and restricted to everyday terms such as 'harmful', 'dangerous', 'serious issue', and 'important'. There are multiple awkward word choices and collocation errors, such as 'production it's prove to be', 'suffered from this disease were very difficult to be survived', and the misuse of 'it's' instead of 'its'. The student attempts some topic-related vocabulary around environment and health, but the incorrect forms and lack of precision severely restrict the lexical range. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of precise nouns, verbs, and adjectives, and eliminate frequent word-form inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay. The text relies heavily on repetitive, basic sentence structures linked incorrectly with coordinating conjunctions. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, pronoun cases, and possessive determiners, such as 'it's prove', 'its consumption so it's must be reduced', and 'if we don't recycle it then it become'. Punctuation is also problematic, marked by run-on sentences and an incomplete final sentence where the essay cuts off abruptly. Complex structures are rare and generally inaccurate when attempted. Frequent errors consistently cause difficulty and confusion for the reader.
