Student answer (Band 5.0)
worried for the environment is becoming bigger and many people are willing to recycle , but some people still suggest that this is not enough and the solution is that we need to consume very little. nowadays there are many companies producing recycable plastic , books etc. almost every water bottle we use today has a logo saying recycable . people also started buying plastic items which have this same logo . almost every item we use now government and environmentalist are making sure to recycle them so we dont harm our nature by producing a large amount of non-degradable waste . whereas , others they believe its not enough . Recycling is not the only solution and it does not allow us to produce more and more non-degradable item just because we can recycle them. they believe the process that takes place inorder to recycle them still takes a lot of enery and produces a lot of toxins. they suggest as humans we need to consume less by living a sustainable life like we used to like back in the days. in my opinion ,as the population is getting bigger there has to be many solutions , i believe there will be no one answer when it comes to the environment as there are all different kinds of people around the world there has to be multiple solutions covering all the environmental problems . recycling itself cannot help us sustainability will be very helpful in the near future. For example , when i was a kid my school circulates a large circular to all the students in the school telling us to collect all the plastic item in our houses that not used to be given in school for recycling . when i told by father about this he just asked a simple question if your school is very concerened about the nature why did they waste so much resoure on a circular they should have just given a small one . that when i realised the value of sustainability.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the emphasis on recycling and the opposing view that consumption must be reduced—and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and lacks depth. For instance, the discussion on recycling touches upon plastic bottles and government initiatives, but the explanation remains basic. Similarly, the argument for consuming less is introduced with general statements about toxins and energy usage without being fully extended. The personal example provided at the end helps illustrate the writer's perspective, though the overall connection to sustainability could be more rigorously elaborated to reach a higher band level. Therefore, the task achievement aligns best with Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks proper paragraphing, as it is presented in one single, dense block of text rather than distinct paragraphs for introduction, body viewpoints, and conclusion. This heavily impacts the visual and structural organization. While there are some cohesive devices used such as 'whereas', 'in my opinion', and 'for example', the overall progression is difficult to follow due to run-on sentences and a lack of clear discourse markers between contrasting arguments. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronoun usage like 'them' and 'they'. Because the text is unparagraphed and mechanical cohesion hampers the logical flow, this criterion corresponds to a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical range is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey basic arguments about the environment, plastic items, and recycling. There are several vocabulary attempts such as 'non-degradable waste', 'sustainable life', and 'environmental problems'. However, word choice and spelling inaccuracies are noticeable throughout the text, including 'recycable' instead of recyclable, 'inery' instead of energy, 'concerened', and 'resoure'. These errors occasionally draw the reader's attention, though they do not completely impede communication. The use of less common lexical items lacks precision and flexibility, placing this performance firmly at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writing relies heavily on simple sentences and long, unpunctuated compound sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions or commas splices, such as 'when i told by father about this he just asked a simple question...'. Punctuation is largely neglected, with missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns, and inadequate sentence boundary marking. While there is an attempt at complex structures like conditional clauses ('if your school is very concerened...'), these constructions frequently contain grammatical errors such as missing auxiliary verbs ('if your school is ... why did they waste'). Due to frequent grammatical errors and poor punctuation control that cause difficulty for the reader, this warrants a Band 5.0.
