Student answer (Band 5.0)
While some people believe that to protect the growing environment, it is essential to reduce our consumption but other individuals think that recycling is the great option. In my opinion, recycling on a large scale is the best option.
On one side of the argument, many individuals believe that we need to reduce our consumption to save our atmosphere because recycling is not enough. The most compelling reason for believing this is that consumption of products reduce the pollution. When we consume less, it decrease the wastage which is good for the environment. For instance, by reducing the usage of plastic bags lead towards the clean environment.
Despite the above argument, I believe that recycling is the great option for a growing environment. Indeed, one reason why I take this position is that recycling of plastic is good for the environment. By recycling plastic, it help us to reduce our cost by paying a less amount of used plastic. For example, recycling the plastic bottles of cold drinks save alot of money rather than purchasing new plastic. Furthermore, by recycling plastic play an essential role to reduce the pollution. By collecting used plastic and recycle it help us to clean our enviroment. Such as, people thew plastic in bins which increase the wastage and also polluted enviroment.
To conclude, both views are commonly held in society. I believe that recycling is the great option because it is not easy to reduce our consumption. Given this situation, it is recommended that to put some efforts to recycle the products more and more.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both views required by the prompt, discussing the need to reduce consumption versus the effectiveness of recycling, and clearly states the writer's opinion that recycling is the best option. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the arguments regarding recycling focus almost exclusively on plastic and cost-saving benefits rather than exploring broader environmental or societal impacts. The reasoning in the body paragraphs tends to over-generalize and lacks fully extended support. While the task is adequately addressed to fulfill the basic requirements, the depth of argumentation and support places this performance in the Band 5.0 range, as the ideas remain somewhat undeveloped and repetitive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay has a recognisable overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and paragraphs are generally used to separate different points. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by repetitive phrasing and weak cohesive devices. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Despite the above argument' and 'Furthermore' are used mechanically rather than to establish clear, nuanced relationships between ideas. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'by recycling plastic, it help us to reduce our cost', where pronoun reference is imprecise. Although there is some organisation, the heavy reliance on repetitive sentence structures and limited cohesive mechanisms points directly to a Band 5.0 descriptor profile.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, frequently reusing terms such as 'environment', 'consumption', 'recycle', and 'plastic' throughout the response. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'growing environment' instead of 'environment' or 'natural environment', and 'paying a less amount' instead of 'paying less'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are limited and often inaccurate, as seen in 'decrease the wastage' or 'people thew plastic in bins'. Because the lexical range is limited and noticeable errors occur frequently throughout the text, this performance aligns closely with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, but structures are often faulty when complexity is introduced. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and prepositional usage, such as 'consumption of products reduce the pollution', 'it decrease the wastage', and 'it help us'. Additionally, mechanical errors like 'althought' or missing punctuation persist. Because attempts at complex sentences often result in structural errors that cause some difficulty or hesitation for the reader, the grammatical control corresponds to a Band 5.0 level.
