Student answer (Band 6.5)

recycle, the consumption of some basic thing, help to reuse them, cloth, shoes, food, would make environment clean, waste of vegetable and fruits used as fertiliser for the effective growth of plant

use less natural sources, plastic bags and bottles, cannot recycle easily, daily consume for food storage, preserve, carry, replaced, for instance, use bags and utensils, which can be used again and again

food cannot be avoided, wisely use things and recycle them, one effort just recycling or just reducing use not good, use environmentally freindly, then do not waste and reuse

In contemporary societies, environmental problem such as pollution, global warming, and greenhouse affects have been increasing and therefore, many people are making efforts to achieve environmental protection. Some people think recycling things a best approach to tackle this issue, however, others contemplate that the consumption of things need to be reduced. This essay will examine both perspectives before providing my personal opinion.

On the one hand, recycling things is very beneficial for environmental protection. It is mandatory to use some items including clothes, shoes, and utensils for human beings, and therefore, its consumption cannot be reduced at a large extent. Moreover, food is a basic necessity of life and people eat fruits and vegetables regularly which also result in wastage. Therefore, one of the most effective approach in this case is that these things can be recycled to make new products or can be reused. For instance, fruits and vegetables waste can be used be as a fertiliser to grow plants and other products can be processed in industries to make new items.

On the other hand, those who support the second perspective has certain reasons. The consumption of plastic bottles has increased and people buy water bottles regularly rather than reusing a bottle for certain time period. Moreover, people are increasingly using plastic bags for preserving thing from bacteria, to carry items from market, and to use it as packing things. As a result, these plastic products end up in the water and significantly impact to the ecosystem of species in the water. Therefore, the use of these unnecessary products can be reduced and replaced by some environmetally friendly alternatives. To cite an example, instead of buying water bottle regularly, people can use a metal bottle which can be washed and reused. Similarly, they can use a bag made of cloth rather than using plastic bag.

From my perspective, both perspective have their benefits, however, I believe recycling as the best approach to protect environment. People should buy necessary items, reuse them, and recycle them finally. Moreover, they should be careful in their purchases and buy items which are environmentally friendly.

In conclusion, recycling is best for necessary items and the consumption of unnecessary items can be reduced. Although differing viewpoints persist, the plenty of evidence supports the view that recycling is the most efficient approach to protect environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that recycling is sufficient and that we need to consume less—while also clearly stating a personal opinion throughout the essay. The introduction sets up the discussion well, and the body paragraphs logically explore the benefits of recycling versus the necessity of reducing plastic consumption. Ideas are well-supported with relevant examples, such as utilizing vegetable waste as fertilizer and replacing single-use plastic water bottles with metal alternatives. The position is consistently maintained, leading to a well-developed response that aligns comfortably with the Band 7 descriptors for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas from the introduction through the two body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately and sufficiently to separate distinct themes. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'To cite an example' are used to guide the reader smoothly through the arguments. Although referencing is mostly clear and logical, minor awkward transitions at the sentence level keep it from reaching higher bands. Overall, the essay demonstrates a clear logical structure and meets the requirements for Band 7.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss environmental issues with some flexibility and precision. Phrases such as 'environmental protection', 'basic necessity of life', 'unnecessary products', and 'environmentally friendly alternatives' indicate a good control of topic-specific language. There are occasional word choice and grammatical form errors—such as 'greenhouse affects' instead of 'greenhouse effects' and 'to a large extent' rather than 'to a large extent' (or 'at a large scale')—but these minor inaccuracies do not impede communication, positioning the lexical resource comfortably at Band 6.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms effectively, incorporating subordinate clauses and conditional constructions. There is a good variety of structures, including 'This essay will examine both perspectives before providing my personal opinion' and 'instead of buying water bottle regularly, people can use a metal bottle which can be washed and reused.' While there are some recurring grammatical errors—such as subject-verb agreement issues in 'those who support the second perspective has certain reasons' and minor pluralisation slips—the frequency of error-free sentences is high enough to ensure that meaning is never obscured.
