Student answer (Band 6.0)

In contemporary society, the environmental exploaitation has become a pressing issue, and many individuals are more meticulus about this issue. Therefore, there is an ongiong debate whether recycling is all inhabitants need to do or not. Although recycling is incredibly beneficial, I believe we also need to adopt sustainable energy sources, because ony recycling can not fully curb environmental issues.

A large segment of society believes that recycling goods is only thing we need to preserve our environment. This is due to the fact that many issues are solved when recyclye material like paper and plastic. In this way alot of plants are protected, and we do not need to cut tress. For instance, if we recycle all paper and cardboard material, we would definately save our oxygen resources, which improve overall quality of air and individual's health.

On the other hand, many opponents believe that recycling is insufficient because we need to do more to protect our environment. This can be achieved by investing on sustainable energy sources such as by using wind energy we can produce electricity. Moreover, a cleaner ecosystem can be achieved by working on green transport, because vehicals omit harmfull gases which harm both lifes and atmosphere. This can be illustrated as if we invest on green buses and use batteries instead of petrol, we can alleviate environmental degradation.

In conclusion, it is widely argued whether we need to do recycling to overcome environmental concern or we need more efforts. From my perspective humans need to do more to curb challenges related to ecosystem

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both recycling and the view that we need to consume less, while also providing a personal opinion. However, the student misinterprets the prompt's core debate slightly by substituting 'consume less' with 'adopt sustainable energy sources' in their thesis and body paragraph. The prompt specifically focuses on consumption reduction, whereas the student writes about green energy and transport. Consequently, the position is not always clearly sustained throughout, and the ideas regarding consumption are under-developed. For example, the student mentions that 'many issues are solved when recyclye material' but does not deeply explore the idea of consuming less. This places the response comfortably at Band 5.5 to 6.0; however, because the requirements are met, it warrants a Band 6.0 for addressing all parts of the task with relevant, if somewhat shifted, ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is generally coherent with a clear overall arrangement consisting of an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'This is due to the fact that...' is used, but referencing across sentences is occasionally unclear, such as 'when recyclye material like paper and plastic' lacking proper grammatical linkage. Furthermore, the progression from recycling to sustainable energy in the second body paragraph feels slightly disjointed because it deviates from the prompt's focus on consumption. Cohesive devices are present but can be repetitive or awkward. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate to earn a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'contemporary society,' 'pressing issue,' and 'environmental degradation.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the precision of the writing, including 'exploaitation,' 'meticulus,' 'ongiong,' 'recyclye,' 'tress,' 'definately,' 'vehicals,' and 'harmfull.' Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the meaning remains clear throughout the essay. The student demonstrates sufficient flexibility to handle the topic, but the frequency of spelling mistakes and slight lexical inaccuracies prevents the score from reaching a Band 7.0. Therefore, a Band 6.0 accurately reflects the lexical control demonstrated.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures ('if we recycle all paper and cardboard material, we would definately save...') and subordinate clauses ('Although recycling is incredibly beneficial, I believe...'). However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, such as 'there is an ongiong debate whether recycling is all inhabitants need to do,' 'ony recycling can not fully curb,' and 'investing on sustainable energy sources' (instead of 'in'). Punctuation is also occasionally problematic, with missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'environment. This is due'). While these errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher band, they do not impede overall communication. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor.
