Student answer (Band 5.0)
Environmental threats are raising great concerns nowadays. With that societies are also introducing different ways to protect the environment and one of that is recycling. With the increase in population the resources are also declining that is causing a great threat for the future generation.
To overcome these threats, recycling is one of the best initiative that should be taken. For instance plastic bottles which are nearly used in every industry and also declared as one of the highest environmental threat is now heavily recycled in order to reduce the load which is actually a great step.
But not everyone believe that recycling is a good initiative to take. According to them in order to reduce the environmental load we have to start consuming less and stop using things that are a great harm for our future. To some extent their concerns are right but it would be difficult to practically implement on this initiative as no one is going to stop doing things that are making their lives convenient.
So in conclusion, promoting things that are showing some change rather then nothing would be great in order to protect our environment for greater risk and for me recycling is one of the best option to opt it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both recycling and consuming less, and it provides a personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and the task is under-length, containing only 208 words compared to the required 250 words. This significantly affects the overall task response, as the arguments regarding why people believe we should consume less lack sufficient elaboration and specific examples. The position is stated, but the explanation of practical implementation is brief. Because the word count requirement is not met, the score is penalized accordingly, placing it within the Band 5 range.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is hindered by abrupt transitions and mechanical cohesive devices such as 'With that societies' and 'For instance plastic bottles'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the connection between ideas within paragraphs is sometimes loose, for instance jumping from population growth directly into recycling initiatives without a clear thematic bridge. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'practically implement on this initiative'. Overall, the coherence aligns with the Band 5 descriptors due to the lack of clear, smooth progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate basic ideas, featuring terms like 'environmental threats', 'population', and 'convenient'. However, the range is limited and there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'best initiative that should be taken' (best initiative that should be taken / best initiatives that should be taken), 'highest environmental threat', and 'opt it' instead of 'opt for it'. Repetition of words like 'initiative' and 'great' also restricts the lexical score. While the reader can understand the intended meaning, the frequent minor inaccuracies place this performance firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'With the increase in population the resources are also declining that is causing a great threat...' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors in punctuation, missing commas, and preposition usage ('implement on this initiative'). There are also agreement errors, such as 'one of that is recycling' instead of 'one of those is recycling'. Although the meaning is rarely completely obscured, the high frequency of errors across various sentence structures prevents the response from achieving a Band 6.
