Student answer (Band 5.0)

This issue is often debated by individuals that environmental awareness is rapidly increasing and more people choosing to recycle but some people opposed this idea they think that we have to utilize less.

On one hand, recycling reduce waste, conserve natural resources but also lower pollution eventhough in these days many people utilize the things that can be easily recycled. Although government has strictly banned the plastic bags to reduce waste material. Recycling helps to save enough energy however, government should use this energy for the benefit of the country therefore, by this society live in a pollution free environment.

On the other hand, some individuals think that recycling is not a ultimate solution of the problem. However, they think that we have to utilize goods in smaller quantity. Moreover, their believe each recycled product is not environment friendly eventhough they claim that just recycling is not beneficary for a society while humans have to contribute their efforts for the country.

In my stance, i respect both views but i agree on that the recycling is not enough alone we have to put our individual efforts to save the society. If people contribute in the society world can be more happy

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on recycling and consumption, and a personal opinion is provided in the final paragraph. However, the word count requirement is not met, as the essay contains only 201 words compared to the minimum of 250. This under-length severely limits the development of ideas, leaving arguments underdeveloped and lacking sufficient supporting examples. For instance, the discussion on energy conservation in the second paragraph remains superficial. Because the task response is incomplete regarding the required length and depth, it falls under the Band 5 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, attempting an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a basic attempt at logical progression using transitional markers like On one hand, On other hand, and In my stance. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical, faulty, or confusing. For example, the phrase eventhough in these days is used awkwardly, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as pronoun usage in the conclusion. Paragraphing is present, but the overall organization feels disjointed due to poor sentence connectivity and repetitive structures, justifying a Band 5 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with words like 'recycle', 'utilize', 'waste', and 'country' appearing frequently. There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'utilize less' instead of 'consume less', 'ultimate solution of the problem' instead of 'ultimate solution to the problem', and 'beneficary' instead of 'beneficial'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic concepts related to the environment, inaccuracies and limited range restrict the score to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in punctuation, tense, and clause structure that often impede communication. Examples include missing verbs or conjunctions in 'more people choosing to recycle' and run-on sentences with incorrect punctuation like 'recycling reduce waste, conserve natural resources but also lower pollution eventhough in these days many people utilize...'. Subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'recycling reduce', are also present. Due to the high frequency of grammatical errors and faulty complex structures, a Band 4.5 is assigned, rounded to 5.0.
