Student answer (Band 5.0)

Most of the individuals assumes that nature that are surrouding us is developing therefore they are deciding to recycle whereas the remaining people state that recycling process is not up to the mark and they feel that we need to absorb little. In my opinion, recycle alone cannot solve the problem that the locals are facing as it still requires energy and creates waste. This essay will discuss both the issues in the following paras with suitable examples.

Firstly, the growth in our surroundings is most important for our life as it can keep us healthy and keep us away from harmful things like gases etc. So, all the individuals should consume less harmful products or they should ban using plastic bags because it can cause cancer and while burning plastics, the smoke that it releases is bad for our health. For example, if we use paper to write and if we think to recycle it then we can make paper bags and it will not disturb our nature.

Secondly, if people think to recycle the things as the environment is growing then it still requires energy to keep everything safe around us and it will create waste because it is not possible to stay consistent for all the human beings. For example, if a mirror breaks then instead of throwing it, we can reuse by making a glass painting and keep in our living room as a decoration and it will brighten the room.

At last, all the individuals should consume less than recycle because the humans can face many problems through this and can result in a worst situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to address all parts of the prompt by discussing both the view that recycling is growing and the alternative view that we need to consume less, while also providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear due to confusing phrasing, such as 'nature that are surrouding us is developing'. The writer states their opinion that recycling requires energy and creates waste, and attempts to support this with examples like making paper bags or using a broken mirror for decoration. While a clear stance is presented throughout and all parts of the task are touched upon, the ideas remain somewhat under-developed and lack the depth expected for a higher band. Consequently, the performance aligns best with the descriptors for Band 5.5, showing basic task coverage with limited idea development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs marked by transitional markers ('Firstly', 'Secondly'), and a conclusion ('At last'). However, the overall progression is hampered by awkward phrasing and mechanical cohesion. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the opening sentence where pronoun reference and logical connection between clauses are weak. Paragraphing is attempted appropriately to separate different arguments, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by imprecise vocabulary and convoluted sentence structures. The use of cohesive devices is rather basic and repetitive. These features place the response firmly in the Band 5.0 range, where there is some organization but clear deficiencies in overall progression and cohesive control.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and often unnatural, reflecting a basic range that struggles to convey precise meaning. Examples include 'absorb little' instead of 'consume less', and phrasing like 'the locals are facing' where it does not quite fit the context. There are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'nature that are surrouding us is developing' and 'worst situation'. Less common lexical items are attempted but usually result in awkwardness or inaccuracy, for instance, 'disturb our nature'. While the meaning is mostly decipherable despite these errors, the lexical range and precision are restricted. This performance corresponds to Band 5.0, where vocabulary is limited and noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many of the complex sentences contain grammatical errors or awkward phrasing. There are frequent mistakes with subject-verb agreement, such as 'Most of the individuals assumes', and incorrect article or preposition usage throughout the text. Run-on sentences and comma splices also occur, such as in the first paragraph where clauses are strung together without proper punctuation. While some simpler sentences are constructed without error, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies affects readability. These patterns of error place the response at Band 5.0, characterized by a limited range of structures and frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader.
