Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the prompt only minimally, which is compounded by the fact that it fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, coming in at just 187 words. While the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding recycling versus consumption and offers a brief personal opinion, the ideas are severely limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion of the opposing view mentions that recycling requires more energy, but this point is not extended or supported with clear reasoning or relevant examples. Similarly, the personal opinion is stated in a single, oversimplified sentence ('i choose recycling because it helps to reduce pollution and dust') without elaboration. To improve, the writer must extend all arguments fully, integrate specific explanations or examples from their own knowledge, and ensure the essay meets the required word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization with discernible paragraphs, such as an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the text. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and repetitive manner, evident in transitional phrases like 'To begin with,' 'To explain it,' and 'To clarify it,' which often introduce underdeveloped points rather than smooth logical steps. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and sentences within paragraphs do not always flow logically into one another, disrupting the overall readability of the piece. To reach the next level, the writer needs to ensure a clearer logical progression between ideas and use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, representing a limited range that is only minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'dedated' instead of debated, 'purpose' instead of propose, 'producted' instead of products, and 'preception' instead of perception. These inaccuracies occasionally strain the reader and hinder precise communication. While the student attempts some less common terms like 'afforestation,' improper usage and collocational errors prevent higher achievement. To improve, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, focus on correct word forms and spelling, and ensure words are used in appropriate collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple or poorly formed sentences. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, article usage, and sentence construction, such as 'individuals favour the idea' lacking a relative pronoun or participle, 'large amount of plastic products are using' featuring incorrect passive voice, and 'when recycling the old object it required more energy' showing poor tense consistency and missing subjects. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and sometimes distort the intended meaning. To move up, the writer needs to increase the variety of complex sentence structures and improve basic grammatical accuracy by checking tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and clause structures.
