Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the task only minimally. While the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding recycling versus consuming less and gives an opinion, the ideas are severely underdeveloped and lack adequate support. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing only 238 words instead of the required 250 words. The arguments presented are overly simplistic and repetitive, such as stating 'resource also consume along with it' and mentioning vague surveys without real elaboration. To improve, the writer must fully develop their ideas with specific, relevant explanations and examples, ensure all parts of the prompt are explored in depth, and meet the minimum word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation evident with the use of introductory and concluding framing, but the overall progression lacks clarity and logical flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak and choppy. Cohesive devices are either inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, such as repetitive transitions like 'To commence with' and 'to conclude'. Referencing is also frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. For instance, sentences are abruptly strung together without smooth logical links. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to ensure a clear overall progression throughout the essay and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to connect ideas logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, which strains understanding in several places. The writer attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'ecosystem', 'natural world', and 'resources', but these are handled with frequent errors in word form, choice, and collocation, such as 'selecting of recycle' instead of 'recycling' and 're use products'. Spelling errors and incorrect word choices are noticeable throughout the text, impeding smooth communication. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range beyond simple and repetitive terms, use less common vocabulary with greater precision, and pay closer attention to word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences or faulty attempts at complex clauses. Frequent errors in grammar and punctuation are present throughout, including problems with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and awkward clause structures, such as 'when its comes to natural world' and 'if individuals select to recycle method'. These errors are frequent and often distort the intended meaning, requiring the reader to work hard to understand the text. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic sentence patterns, reduce the frequency of grammatical errors, and learn how to construct accurate complex sentences.
