Student answer (Band 5.0)

Most often people think that recycling should be done by every citizen of the environment but some believe that if we consume less product then the problem will be solved. The main reason for this is the eco friendly behaviour of the materials.

At the present moment, recycling is increasing day by day in our surroundings. Because people are getting used to it. For instance, recycling plastics are quite eco friendly for our environment. Though it doesnot harm our nature, it is a time consuming process. Nowadays, plastics are being recycled everywhere so that it can be utilized for further purpose. Besides, not all plastics can berecycled beacuse of the variation of plastics grade.

In contratry, some people believe that recycling is not enough. If they consume less, then recycling would be less. Because, not all materials are biodegradable and they can cause damage to the soil. Alternatively, by burning these kind of material, there will cause huge quantity of environmental pollution. As a result, various types of disease will be spread throughout the society and may cause global warming.

In my opinion, the government should ensure specific guidelines for recycling so that general people will be aware of this. Also, the people should have proper knowledge about recycling so that the best outcome can be achieved from them. I think, recycling should be done for bio degradable materials. Otherwise, it will harm the environment and consequently becomes a thread for the nation. So, for the sake of a nation, people must ensure proper recycling activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, exploring the two views on recycling and consumption in a limited manner. The position is stated rather simply and lacks consistent clarity throughout the essay. Ideas appear quite repetitive and under-developed, particularly when discussing why consumption should be reduced or how recycling functions. For example, the explanation regarding non-biodegradable materials and pollution is overly generalised and lacks specific supporting examples or sound reasoning. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to present a fully developed position with well-supported arguments for both sides, ensuring that every point is elaborated with relevant explanations and clear examples rather than superficial assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization with distinct paragraphs, but the response lacks a clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate, repetitive, or poorly managed. For instance, transitional phrases like 'In contratry,' and 'Alternatively,' are used mechanically or inappropriately for the context, which disrupts the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as when pronouns like 'they' refer ambiguously to materials or people. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion needs significant improvement to guide the reader smoothly from one point to the next. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure logical sequencing and more natural, varied cohesive relationships.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, containing noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. While the writer attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'eco friendly', 'biodegradable', and 'global warming', there are frequent issues with word choice, word form, and spelling. Examples of these inaccuracies include 'contratry' for 'contrary', 'berecycled' and 'beacuse', and awkward phrasing like 'become a thread for the nation' instead of 'threat'. The range of vocabulary remains restricted to basic or repetitive terms. To progress, the student should expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to spelling and word forms, and use less common lexical items with greater precision and awareness of collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simpler sentence patterns alongside faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples of these issues include 'Doesnot', 'recycling plastics are quite eco friendly' (agreement and article issues), and 'these kind of material' (pluralisation error). Punctuation errors and awkward clause attachments also occur, such as sentence fragments or run-on ideas. These frequent mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to practice complex sentence structures while ensuring higher grammatical accuracy, particularly concerning subject-verb agreement, plural forms, and correct verb tenses.
