Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is argued that concern for environment is growing and more and more people are choosing to recycle and some people suggest that recycling is not enough. This essay wil discuss both views and explain their own idea with examples.
Environment really plays an important role globally. Nowadays fear for environment is increasing day by day and it is becoming alarming. Recycling can be useful to overcome this risk and in this way pollution can be minimized. Because plastic is very injurious to health and it can be toxic for marine life as well. Recycling can contribute to made the envioronment better.
But the question is "Is recycling alone can be enough". Besides recycling, some other things should also be noticed. For-example, air pollution is the most critical factor in disturbing the environment. Smoke of chimneys are making the atmosphere disturbing. Secondly, less consumption cab be the best possible solution to overcome this environmental crisis.
In my opinuon, recycling can be the one of the factors but only recycling can not be enough to save the environment. We shiuld do some more efforts to make our environment friendly. Growing more trees, making good qualuty chimneys that can filter the toxic smoke and green house effects are some of the best possible solutions along with recycling. Less consumption is also one of the several factors.
As the concern for environment is growing day by day so, some people suggest that recycling alone is not enough while some believe that recycling can be the best. It is better to look upon all the factors that can contribute to make our environment toxic free and that can lead to better ecosystem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on recycling and consumption, and presents an opinion in the conclusion. However, the treatment of the ideas remains limited and somewhat repetitive. For instance, the discussion on why recycling alone is not enough mentions air pollution and less consumption, but these ideas are under-developed without sufficient supporting examples or extension. The writer's position is discernible, particularly in the conclusion, but the overall development lacks depth and tends to generalise rather than fully explore the nuances of the issue.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some basic organisation with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, establishing an overall coherent structure. However, there is a lack of clear progression throughout the response, and ideas tend to loop or repeat without advancing the argument smoothly. Cohesive devices are used, but they are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as starting consecutive sentences with 'But' or 'Secondly'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion needs stronger logical links to guide the reader seamlessly from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited in range, though minimally adequate to communicate the basic points. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling mistakes ('envioronment', 'opinuon', 'qualuty'), word form issues ('contribute to made'), and awkward collocations ('fear for environment'). These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, the restricted control and frequent slips prevent the response from achieving a higher level of precision and stylistic awareness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Smoke of chimneys are'), missing articles ('in my opinuon', 'one of the factors'), and awkward phrasing ('Is recycling alone can be enough'). These frequent errors and faulty structures can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning of the arguments remains generally understandable.
