Student answer (Band 6.0)

The concern of many individuals towards deteriorating envionment is increasing and most of them are choosing to recycle while some still believe that solely recycling is not enough, we need to consume less. Although recycling helps to reduce the waste by pushing the product to circular economy, I believe that we should shift our consumption pattern and focus more on biodegradable or reusable products.

On the one hand, recycling helps to reduce non-biodegradable by pushing it to circular economy where it serve as a raw material for some other purpose. The environment benefits associated with the introduction of recycling is way more than what we can imagine, it keeps earth and atmosphere clean and safe for upcomings. For instance, various developed country such as Germany has introduced Pfand for rewarding the people who recycles there bottles, cans etc.

On the other hand, recycling solely is not enough to solve the problem, introduction of 3R's (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) or shifting focus towards biodegradable or eco friendly products. Using alternatives such as leaves instead of plates or muds glass or paper cups instead of plastic or glass cups, not only has environmental benefits but also health benefits. For instance water stored in mud vessel adds minerals to the water and drinking such water has various health benefits. The oceans which are supposed to be filled with plastic and other non biodegradable has adverse effect on aquatic animals and even human animals due to consumption of microplastic, so it is high time that we consume less plastic and shift to eco-friendly products for the betterment of human and Earth.

In conclusion, despite recycling helps to reduce the concern for environment but it solely is not sufficient to solve the mess which is already impacting all of us.

Overall6.0

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the role of recycling and the necessity of consuming less, while presenting a clear personal position in the introduction. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, while the point about Germany's 'Pfand' system is relevant and supported, the arguments regarding alternatives to plastic in the third paragraph tend to over-generalise and lack sufficient extension. To move to a higher level, the student needs to provide deeper analysis and more fully developed examples for all viewpoints rather than relying on brief assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body points, and conclusion logically. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand,' but referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen in transitions like 'The oceans which are supposed to be filled with plastic...'. Paragraphing is present and generally appropriate, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, the student should ensure that cohesive ties are managed more flexibly and naturally throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'circular economy,' 'non-biodegradable,' and 'microplastic.' However, there are noticeable word-choice, spelling, and word-form errors that reflect an adequate rather than fully controlled lexical range. Examples include 'deteriorating envionment' (spelling), 'upcomings' (incorrect word form for future generations), 'muds glass' (awkward phrasing), and 'recycles there bottles' (homophone error). These errors do not seriously impede communication, but to reach a higher level, the vocabulary must demonstrate greater precision, natural collocation, and fewer mechanical slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions and preposition issues, including 'pushing the product to circular economy' (missing article), 'various developed country' (pluralisation error), and comma splices like '...way more than what we can imagine, it keeps earth...'. However, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To progress further, the student needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over punctuation and grammatical agreements.
