Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent time, many people believe one of the biggest concern that we should focus on is recycling, while others think recycling alone may be not enough to slove environmental problems, we also need to consume less amount of food. From my perspective, in order to obtain more sustained environment we have to focus on aspects which are helpfull, either recycling or other approaches.

Nowadays, many societies are quite aware of various detrimental challenges that we face. In order to combat such challeneges, we often develop different kinds of solutions and aims. Recycling is one of the most popular approaches that can be beneficial to obtain such aims.People believe recycling is a very suitable way to reform an expired object to new and more usefull thing without causing any environmental pollution. Many governments provide specialized bins to different type of products .For example, plastic bags or containers are recycled anually through speciallized machines, even people rewarded by throwing largest number of plastic to such bins. Hence, these approaches often obtain decent amount of money for many people, and also protects the environment from detrioration.

On the other hand, many individuals believe that recycling is not sufficient enough to protect the environment, but we also put limit on our consumption rate. They think one of the major problem that we experience these days is amount of food we take which is beyond our need. People often throw away a decent amount of regardless to the risks that develop through this action. They feel like if we recieve required amount of food that we need, it will be much beneficial for our physical well being and also for our environment.

In conclusion, it is a shared duty for everyone to be concerned about the environment that we live in, recycling and proper consumption are both appropriate approaches that we can take. I believe members of society and government both should work together in order to gain a better quality of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both recycling and consuming less, and presents a personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of these ideas is uneven and somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding consuming less focuses almost exclusively on the amount of food we take, which narrows the scope of the broader concept of consumption. The position is generally clear, but some ideas remain under-developed or lack sufficient extension with specific examples. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to explore both views with greater depth and provide more expansive, well-rounded supporting details that cover consumption in a broader economic and lifestyle context.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate the distinct ideas. However, cohesion at the sentence level is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Transition markers and cohesive devices such as 'Nowadays', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are employed, but referencing is not always completely clear, and the logical progression between sentences occasionally feels disjointed. To achieve a higher level, the writer should ensure that ideas flow more smoothly into one another and that cohesive devices are used with greater flexibility and precision rather than relying on repetitive formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, conveying the basic message about the environment and consumption. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'detrimental challenges', 'specialized machines', and 'deterioration', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'sustained environment' instead of 'sustainable environment', 'expired object', and spelling errors like 'helpfull', 'challeneges', 'annually', 'speciallized', and 'recieve'. These lexical slips and spelling mistakes reflect a limited range and occasional strain on the reader. To improve, the student must focus on precise word choices, correct collocations, and accurate spelling of common academic terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures to link ideas together. However, these attempts are often faulty, featuring frequent errors in grammar, articles, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement. Examples include 'In recent time' instead of 'In recent times', 'one of the biggest concern', 'recycling alone may be not enough to slove', 'which are helpfull', and 'we also put limit'. Punctuation and clause structures also need closer attention. While the errors rarely impede overall communication entirely, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. Incorporating a wider variety of error-free complex structures and thoroughly checking basic grammatical patterns will help elevate this aspect of writing.
