Student answer (Band 6.0)
People are opting to recycle more waste material in view of growing concern for the environment. However, some individuals think people should consume less because recycling is not enough. In my opinion, both views are important to protect the environment. In today's world, population is growing rapidly, which results in the production of more waste material. If that waste material is not recycled, then it would be end up on streets and landfills, which will degrade the environment. For example, if people do not recycle waste material, it will be discarded on in area, which will lead to produce foul smells in that area. As a result, indviduals should recycle more waste so that it does not affect the environment..
Furthermore, consuming less is also a conveniet way of protecting environment because more consumption leads to the usage of more natural resources. For example, In modern era of social media, people are spending more money to buy clothes, which they wear only for once to post a picture on their social media profile. As a result, it creates pressure to recycle those clothes on people, otherwise they would end up in landfills. If people decide to consume less, it will reduce the pressure to recycle more waste to help protect the environment in a more sustainable manner.
In my opinions, both views offer an important perspective in protecting the environment. The garbage produced by people should be recycled to reduce the chance of it being dumped into any area or landfill. However, consuming less will reduce the production of waste material, which will help people to enjoy the healthy environment.
In conclusion, both views present valuable opinions to protect the environment. Recycling plays a vital role in reducing the waste material. Moreover, less consumption is directly linked the production of waste material, so if people would consume less it will reduce the pressure from people to recycle more.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on recycling and consumption, and it presents a clear position throughout. The main ideas are generally relevant, but some are under-developed or lack sufficient extension. For instance, the argument about clothing consumption introduces a good example about social media, but its connection to recycling pressure is somewhat repetitive rather than fully explored. To move towards higher bands, the ideas need to be more fully extended with deeper reasoning and more robust supporting examples, rather than relying on brief illustrations like the foul smells mentioned in the first body paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the discussion logically across distinct paragraphs. Information and ideas are generally organized, and the progression of the argument is apparent. However, the cohesion feels somewhat mechanical at times, with repetitive transitional phrasing and referencing that is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in sentences like 'otherwise they would end up in landfills.' Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different facets of the prompt, but the cohesive devices lack the flexibility required for higher bands. Improving the variety and seamless integration of linking words would enhance the overall flow and progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used provides an adequate range for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas about the environment and consumption clearly. There are noticeable attempts to use less common items, such as 'sustainable manner' and 'natural resources,' but these are accompanied by word choice errors, spelling mistakes, and inaccuracies, such as writing 'conveniet' instead of 'convenient' and 'indviduals' instead of 'individuals.' Collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'lead to produce foul smells.' While these errors and inaccuracies do not impede communication, they reflect a limited precision that keeps the lexical range at a standard level. Expanding word choice accuracy and refining word forms will help elevate this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully attempting structures like conditional clauses ('If that waste material is not recycled, then it would be end up on streets...'). However, there are some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly involving verb tenses and forms ('would be end up', 'lead to produce', 'wear only for once') and article usage ('enjoy the healthy environment'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and the errors rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the train of thought. To achieve a stronger grammatical profile, the student needs to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over prepositions and auxiliary verbs.
