Student answer (Band 5.5)

Concern for the environment is expanding and individuals are frequently choosing to recycle. However, some individuals believe that recycling is not enough. They think that we have to consume less. Although some people choose to recycle products such as bottles and clothes, I firmly believe that we must use products less than usual.

On the one hand, recycling could be a beneficial way to minimize the pollution of the environment and lower the climate change because there is a considerable number of bottels and other wasting materials have been using daily. As a result, they increase the concerns of the global environment. Therefore, recycling plays an immense role in decreasing the environmental concerns. For instance, in many parts of the world, there is no recycling of the wasting products at all. Thus, I believe that recycling has a dramatic impact on the global warning in some ways.

On the other hand, the opponents believe that this way is not enough for minimizing the concerns of the environment and they believe that we must reduce the number of items that we use daily. As a concequence, if everyone cares about this issue and minimizes to use products. Then I believe that there will be a huge difference in clearance of the environment and the environmental concerns will reduce. For example, instead of buying items with a lot of pakagings, we can buy products with less pakagings.

In the light of the aforementioned points, Although some people prefer to recycle their products after using them, I consider that beside this crucial way, we can minimize using these products through choosing an alternative product.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the views on recycling and consumption, and it presents a clear position throughout. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the benefits of recycling bottles and clothes as well as reducing daily packaging. However, some ideas remain under-developed or somewhat repetitive, preventing the response from reaching a higher level. For instance, the explanation of how recycling reduces climate change is brief and relies on general statements like 'recycling plays an immense role in decreasing the environmental concerns.' Similarly, the discussion on consumption could be extended with more specific examples beyond avoiding packaging. Overall, the main arguments are present and understandable, fulfilling the requirements for addressing all parts of the task with relevant, albeit partially developed, support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear organizational structure divided into standard paragraphs. The writer uses basic cohesive devices to signal transitions between ideas, such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In the light of the aforementioned points.' However, cohesion is at times mechanical or slightly faulty, and referencing can lack precision. For example, the sentence 'As a concequence, if everyone cares about this issue and minimizes to use products. Then I believe that...' breaks sentence boundaries improperly, fragmenting the cohesive flow. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother with more varied and naturally integrated cohesive links.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate main ideas about the environment and recycling. There are attempts to use less common and topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'minimize the pollution,' 'global warming,' and 'alternative product.' However, the range is limited and noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form occur throughout the text. Examples include spelling errors like 'bottels' and 'pakagings,' as well as awkward lexical choices such as 'lower the climate change' instead of 'mitigate climate change' and 'minimizes to use products' instead of 'minimizes product use.' These inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score by causing occasional strain for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional clauses ('if everyone cares about this issue...') and concessive clauses ('Although some people choose to...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede overall communication. Issues include article misuse ('the pollution of the environment'), preposition errors ('lower the climate change'), and awkward verb patterns ('minimizes to use products'). Punctuation slips are also present, such as incorrect sentence splitting before 'Then I believe...'. Despite these recurring flaws, the writer maintains control over basic sentence patterns, and there are sufficient error-free clauses to support a mid-level grammatical profile.
