Student answer (Band 5.0)
For a good health, good enviroment is very crucial. Nowadays, concern for the enviroment is growing and more and more people are choosing to recycle. But many people argue that recycling is not enough. They believe that we also need to consume less. Now, I will explain the resaons for both views and then, I will give me my own opinion.
Firstly, people nowadays are choosing to recycle because now they want to keep their enviroment clean and they know that recycling plays an important role in the betterment of an enviroment and it is the best way to keep the enviroment in good condition. In the past, people do not pay attention on the problem of enviroment because at that time, it was not a big problem. But today, enviromental pollution leads us to various new problems like cancer and asthama etc. So that's why, peopel are now starting to concern about it.
On the other hand, many people argue that recycling is not enough to clean the enviroment. We also need to consume less because if we consume less, then the amount of pollutants released or thrown by us will also be very small. And smaller the amount of pollutants is, smaller the energy will be need to clean the enviroment. And there will be not much pollution.
Now, as far as my opinion is concerned, I strongly agree with the later statement. Because i think that we also need to clean our enviroment because we are also living in this enviroment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
First, it must be noted that the response is 8 words short of the 250-word minimum (with 12 words copied from the prompt excluded), meaning the length requirement is NOT met. The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to discuss both views regarding recycling and consuming less, the ideas are quite limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on recycling simply states that people want to keep the environment clean without exploring deeper socio-economic or practical factors. Furthermore, the writer's position is not always clear; in the conclusion, the student states they agree with the 'later statement,' but then gives a vague supporting point ('because i think that we also need to clean our enviroment') that does not fully articulate a reasoned personal opinion on consumption versus recycling.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation evident in the essay, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an attempt at logical sequencing. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, as the arguments tend to loop back rather than build upon one another. Cohesive devices are used, but they are sometimes repetitive, mechanical, or inadequate, such as the repetitive use of sentence openers like 'Firstly,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Now.' Paragraphing is used, but the overall structural flow lacks seamless transitions between the contrasting viewpoints and the final stance.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited in range but minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts to use topic-related terms such as 'environment,' 'recycling,' 'pollutants,' and 'pollution,' but these are repeated frequently due to a lack of synonyms and paraphrasing skills. There are noticeable errors in spelling and word choice that cause some difficulty for the reader, most notably the persistent misspelling of 'enviroment' throughout the text. Other errors include lexical awkwardness like 'good health, good enviroment is very crucial' and 'peopel are now starting to concern about it,' which show restricted control over word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and basic complex forms. Attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, such as 'And smaller the amount of pollutants is, smaller the energy will be need to clean the enviroment,' which contains structural and morphological errors. There are frequent errors in grammar throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people do not pay attention'), tense inconsistencies ('In the past, people do not pay attention'), article omissions, and prepositions within grammatical patterns ('pay attention on'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty and distraction for the reader.
