Student answer (Band 4.0)

Nowadays, Concern for the environment is increasing and more and more individuals are choosing to recycle. But few people suggest that recycling is not enough. They believe we need to consume less. This essay will discuss reason why some people suggest that recycling is not enough and concern for the environment is increasing and more and more individuals are choosing to recycle.

To begin with, why some people suggest that recycling is not enough is because it only deals with waste products and it is not all product that can be recycled. For instance, reuse of spoilt stew can't be possible.

On the other hand, concern for the environment is increasing and more and more individuals are choosing to recycle, However people needs to understand that recycling of waste products can be very bad because most of the products are already contaminated. For instance, the recycling f used handgloves in the hospital can be easily contaminated.

In my opinion, recycling of products is very bad and this can cause people to be sick, it will require health issues, for example, typhoid, or cholera. Moreover, there are some products can be recycled such as water bottles, pots, cups and s on.

In conclusion, while some people believe that recycling is not enogh others believe that they need to consume less and also concern for the environment is increasing and more and more people are choosing to recycle, but recycling is not enough and more and more people should careful and watchful of what they recycle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response recognises the topic and gives an opinion, but it does not adequately discuss both views or develop a clear answer to the question. The first body paragraph says recycling cannot handle all products, while the next mainly argues that recycled items may be contaminated; neither explains the case for consuming less, which is a central part of the task. Your opinion that recycling is “very bad” is stated, but it is not reconciled with the point that some items, such as bottles and cups, can be recycled. The examples are brief and do not sufficiently support the claims. The response is also below the required 250 words: 40 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Develop each view with relevant reasons and examples, then state a consistent position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The essay has a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression between ideas is difficult to follow because the paragraphs do not clearly separate the two views in the question. The second body paragraph begins by repeating the prompt’s point about recycling, then shifts to the claim that recycling can be harmful. The conclusion repeats several phrases from the introduction rather than bringing the argument together. Some linking is also awkward, as in “while some people believe … others believe … and also concern…”. Organise one paragraph around recycling, another around reducing consumption, and use the conclusion to summarise your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “recycle,” “waste products,” “contaminated,” and “environment,” so the reader can identify the subject of the essay. However, the range is narrow and several phrases are repeated, especially “more and more people are choosing to recycle.” Some word choices or combinations are unclear or unsuitable: “reuse of spoilt stew,” “it will require health issues,” and “careful and watchful of what they recycle.” There are also spelling and typing errors, including “enogh,” “f used,” and “s on,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise environmental vocabulary and check spelling. For example, distinguish between reducing consumption, reusing items and recycling materials rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, including “This essay will discuss…” and a contrast introduced by “while.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and agreement are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. Examples include “why some people suggest … is because,” “it is not all product,” and “people needs to understand.” The sentence “there are some products can be recycled” is missing a grammatical link, while “it will require health issues” does not form a clear clause. Punctuation and capitalisation also need attention, as in “recycle, However” and the capitalised “Concern” after the opening word. Practise accurate clause patterns, subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence.
