Student answer (Band 5.0)

The environment attracts people's attention toward their development. It is often argued that the recycling process is very useful while some people believe that we should decline the use of products. I will discuss both of these views with reasons and examples. I will explain my own opinion at the end.

Firstly, most people choose recycling because they want to prevent from a number of diseases. For example, people threw their litter in the garbage. As a result, this litter thrown into rivers by cleaners, this will disturb aquatic life. When people eat seafood, they may suffer from diseases. This will damage the environment very badly. Secondly, most of them choose recycling because they do not want to waste their product. For instance, most people have recycling machines in their homes. When they put their waste product into it, then these machines will work and return same product into new shape. In this way, they prevent from buying expensive products. The environment also calm and peaceful.

However, some people believe that not only recycling could make the environment safe but we need to consume less. They think that we should purchase item when we especially need it. For example, we should reduce our expenses, this will make the environment safe. Furthermore, they rely on recycling but they make sure to reduce our needs.

In my own opinion, recycling plays a crucial rule for the safety of the environment. According to my point of view, it must reduce our expenses. It help to keep safe aquatic life and minimize our health risk.

In my conclusion, people have different ideas concerning to the environment. Some people belive on recycling that is useful for our health and make the environment clean. On the other hand, some people believe that we should take other steps include recycling. They encourage people to take products of their need.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views by discussing recycling and the need to consume less, and you state that recycling is important while people should also reduce their expenses. However, the position is not fully clear: the conclusion says people should take other steps, but the essay does not explain precisely how consumption should change or how the two approaches should be balanced. Several supporting points are limited or unclear. For example, the claim that recycling prevents disease is linked to litter entering rivers, but the explanation of how recycling prevents this is not established. The example of household recycling machines is also general and possibly inaccurate. Develop fewer points with clearer reasoning and a specific, relevant example for each view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate discussion of the two views, an opinion paragraph and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “However” and “In my own opinion” help signal the direction of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because ideas are joined without clear logical links. For instance, the move from litter being thrown into rivers to seafood-related disease, and then to environmental damage, is not explained step by step. Some linking phrases are repetitive or awkward, and the conclusion largely repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together. Use clearer topic sentences and make each example explicitly support the point it follows.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “recycling,” “aquatic life,” “consume less” and “environment,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. Examples include “attracts people's attention toward their development,” “the environment also calm and peaceful,” and “recycling plays a crucial rule.” Repetition of “environment,” “people” and “believe” also limits flexibility. Aim to use precise phrases for environmental effects and consumption, and check that verbs and nouns combine naturally. For example, explain that recycling can “reduce waste” or “protect aquatic ecosystems,” rather than relying on broad claims about keeping the environment safe.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “When” and “because,” and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently, particularly in sentence construction, agreement, articles and verb forms. In “As a result, this litter thrown into rivers by cleaners,” the sentence is missing a finite verb; “this will disturb” then creates an unclear connection. “It help to keep safe aquatic life” has an agreement error and an awkward structure, while “we should purchase item” needs a plural or determiner. Punctuation also needs attention, as in “diseases.This.” Practise building complete sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, articles and clause boundaries.
