Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, environment is facing numerous problems because of garbage and other wastes. Some proportion of individuals believe that recycling can reduce its damage but others suggest recycling is not enough. This essay will discuss both views, then i give my opinion about that.

On the one hand, some people suggest recycling could lessen tha difficulties that environment is facing in present world. For example, when we buy things such as plastic bags and bottles from markets, after using we throw them into dustbins or into rivers due to which water get polluted. Instead of this, we should use them again and again like plastic bags is used in different ways and bottles as well. This help us to make our environment clean.

On the other hand, some citizens believe we should buy things according to our needs so when people use things according to their need their would be less garbage on the roads. For example, if a person is buying 10 small bottles from shops and after using them throw anywhere rather than dustbins then these bottles may stuck in in gutters and pollute environment. Instead of this, They can buy a 1 large bottle which will equal quantity of water and also cause less waste. Another example is that if a person is smoking a lot on daily basis he should reduce the amount of it which is really helpful for clean environment.

In conclusion, after discussing both views, I would say both are very important for peacfull and healthy environment. It should be our moral duty, we don't throw our wastes onto the roads or in the rivers and try to recycle them if they can and use them again and again.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views: the first body paragraph explains reusing bags and bottles, while the second argues that buying only what is needed can reduce waste. Your conclusion also gives a position, saying both approaches matter. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The recycling paragraph focuses mainly on reusing items rather than explaining recycling itself, and the example about smoking is not clearly connected to reducing environmental consumption or waste. The comparison between ten small bottles and one large bottle is relevant, but its environmental benefit could be explained more precisely. State your own view more directly in the introduction and support each main point with a clear explanation of how it reduces environmental harm.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical, and the progression within paragraphs is not always smooth. For instance, the smoking example appears abruptly after the bottle example and does not clearly advance the point about consuming less. References such as “them” in the first body paragraph can also be unclear because several items are mentioned. Improve cohesion by linking each example explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim and using precise references rather than relying repeatedly on “this” or “them.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “recycling,” “garbage,” “polluted,” and “environment.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, which sometimes makes the message less clear. Examples include “lessen tha difficulties,” “make our environment clean,” and “cause less waste.” There are also spelling errors such as “peacfull” and “tha.” Aim for more precise environmental language and check spelling carefully. For example, distinguish between recycling materials and reusing products, and use natural combinations such as “reduce waste” or “protect the environment.” This would make your argument clearer without requiring unnecessarily complicated vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if a person is buying 10 small bottles…” and clauses introduced by “because” and “which.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation can make parts difficult to read. For example, “water get polluted” needs subject–verb agreement, while “This help us” also has an agreement error. In “their would be less garbage,” the pronoun is incorrect, and the sentence beginning “It should be our moral duty” is not grammatically complete as written. Practise building shorter, accurate sentences first, then combine ideas with controlled clauses and check agreement and sentence boundaries.
