Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the recent times, the topic of sustainable environment has caught a wide range of attention. Some people suggest that to save environment recycling should be opted by majority while others argue that people need to consume less resources. From my perspective, environment can be saved by initiating from recycling, considering it as a starting point of sustainable environment.
Sustainable environmental initiatives are in high need beacuse of the growing population. While the authorities can work on implementating plans for less consumption of resources, but with the growing population it would be nearly impossible. The recycling of consumed resources would help to reduce the burden of garbage and ultimately reducing all different kinds of pollution. For example, if people only recycle the plastic, a lot of marine life and land life can be saved.
Furthermore, it is widely believed that a significant amount of products can be changed to biodegradable materials. This would help in the reduction of pollution; as a result, environment would be saved. For instance, paper bags can be used instead of plastic bags which can easily dissolve. One more alternate would be the use of cloth bags for shopping and grocery. These are reuseable and would not harm the enviroment.
Conclusively, saving environment is one of the highly debated topics in recent years. In my view, less consumption is nearly impossible due to increasing number of people on planet; however, recycling can be beneficial to preserve the environment for future generations. Reuseble products can create less burden on planet, promoting sustainable environment initiatives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You present a relevant opinion: recycling is a practical starting point, while reducing consumption is difficult as the population grows. You also include examples such as recycling plastic and replacing plastic bags with paper or cloth. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the argument for consuming less is not fully explained; it is mainly dismissed as “nearly impossible.” The discussion of biodegradable products and reusable bags supports alternatives to plastic, but does not clearly show how these address the two positions in the question. Develop the case for reducing consumption—for example, by explaining how buying fewer products reduces resource extraction and waste—and compare its benefits with recycling before reaching your conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally focus on related ideas, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “For example,” and “Conclusively” help readers follow the discussion. However, progression between the two views is not always clear: the second body paragraph shifts to biodegradable and reusable products without explicitly connecting them to the debate about consuming less versus recycling. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “This would help” and “For instance.” Make the relationship between each example and the main argument explicit, and organise the body around the two views so the comparison develops more clearly.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “sustainable,” “biodegradable,” “marine life,” “pollution,” and “preserve,” which makes the subject clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “a significant amount of products” and “sustainable environmental initiatives,” though some combinations sound unnatural or imprecise. Spelling errors such as “beacuse,” “reuseable,” “enviroment,” and “Reuseble” are noticeable, and phrases like “save environment” and “less consumption of resources” would benefit from more natural forms. These issues do not prevent understanding, but more accurate collocations and careful proofreading would make the vocabulary more controlled and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example (“if people only recycle the plastic”) and a concession introduced by “While.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “to save environment” needs an article, and “While the authorities can work …, but …” combines two contrasting structures incorrectly. In “would help to reduce the burden … and ultimately reducing,” the verb forms are not parallel; use “and ultimately reduce.” There are also awkward sentence constructions, such as “Sustainable environmental initiatives are in high need.” Work on articles, parallel verb forms, and sentence patterns with “while” to improve accuracy while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
