Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people are thinking about protection of environment. While many believe that recycling is a solution to this problem, others believe that it alone can not tackle this issue and less consumption of the recyclable waste is a good option. I also believe that people should buy and use less in order to combat this issue.

On the one hand, some people are of the opinion that recycling should be choosen to preserve the environment because it removes waste products from environment. For example, when plastic and other products are thrown after use, they remain in the environment for a long time because they cannot be decomposed by animals and microorganisms. Thus, they pose a threat to living beings and their surroundings as they have harmful chemicals in them. That is why reusing them is the only solution. However, I believe that this is not the only way of saving environment from harmful chemicals.

On the other hand, others believe that recycling alone is not the only way to clean the environment, there is a need to restrict the buying and usage of new things that pose threat to the environment. For example, if we buy only one plastic shopper instead of five shoppers and make use of already present shoppers, then less plastic will be added to the environment. In this way, it can reduce environmental contamination. I think this approach is best and environment friendly.

To conclude, our environment is facing a lot of issues in recent times. Although many people are showing interest in recycling but this alone cannot combat this issue. That is why some people believe that we need to be more cautious about purchasing new products.I think that if we use less recyclable products in the first place, it can help save environment in an effective way and It will have good effects in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state your position clearly: you support reducing consumption, especially in the introduction and conclusion. The discussion of recycling is relevant, explaining that discarded plastic remains in the environment and can harm living beings. You also give a practical example of using fewer plastic bags. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The claim that reusing items is “the only solution” is too absolute and does not explain how recycling helps alongside reducing consumption. The second view would be stronger with a fuller explanation of how buying fewer products reduces resource use or waste. Develop each argument with a specific cause-and-effect explanation and a more precise example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” helps readers follow the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the first body paragraph, “That is why reusing them is the only solution” does not follow fully from the preceding explanation, and “However” then introduces a point that seems to belong to the opposing view. The conclusion also repeats several ideas from the introduction. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph’s central point explicit, using references such as “this approach” clearly, and linking examples directly to the argument they support.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “recycling,” “decomposed,” “harmful chemicals,” and “environmental contamination,” so the main ideas are generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “preserve the environment.” However, word choice and collocation are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive: “protection of environment,” “buying and usage of new things,” and “use less recyclable products” do not express your meaning naturally. “Shoppers” is also unclear for plastic bags, and “environment friendly” needs a more standard form. Build precision by learning common environmental collocations and choosing specific nouns such as “products,” “packaging,” or “plastic bags” rather than repeatedly using “things” and “products.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “While,” “because,” and “if.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. Articles and prepositions are missing in phrases such as “protection of environment” and “save environment,” while “less consumption of the recyclable waste” has an unclear grammatical structure. There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary problems: “solution. However” and “environment. In this way” need spaces, and the comma splice in “recycling alone is not the only way to clean the environment, there is a need…” should be corrected by using a full stop or conjunction. Review articles, sentence boundaries, and parallel phrasing to improve accuracy while retaining your complex structures.
