Student answer (Band 5.5)
More people are choosing to recycle as tension for the environment is growing. However, some people argue that recycling is not enough and believe that we need to consume less. This essay will discuss that recycling is not adequate to tackle the environmental issue and we need to be frugal in our consumption.
Temperature in our environment is increasing day by day due to global warming. Global warming is mainly caused due to cutting down tress, emission of harmful gases , pollution of water and so on. People are becoming aware about environment and are emphasing on recycling. Recycling is undoubtedly a good practise. However, recycling alone won't solve our environmental issue. We need to consume less along with recycling to solve environmental problem. For instance, the government of Bangladesh has implemented a law to close all markets and supershops after 8 pm in night to lower the consumption of fuel and electricity.
Environmental issue is now a serious issue. Due to our reckless activities, nature is now getting destroyed. We need to be aware about the consequences of our reckless behaviour. If we keep on consuming more resources of nature and do not take steps to tackle the issue then we will be doomed in the future. For instance. Tsunami in Japan has displaced million of people.
In conclusion, nature has bestowed us with plethora of resources. It is our duty to utilize these resources prudently. Now,due to our reckless utilization of resources we are facing consequences. So,to solve our envirionment problem we need to build the habit of recycling and be careful in our consumption.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You present a relevant position: recycling is useful, but it should be combined with lower consumption. The Bangladesh example gives some support to reducing energy use, and the conclusion restates your view. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the case for recycling is only briefly acknowledged as “a good practise”; its benefits are not explained or illustrated. Much of the response then focuses on environmental damage in general, while the Japan tsunami example does not clearly show how consuming less would prevent such harm. Develop each side with a specific reason and a directly relevant example, and make your position explicit throughout rather than relying mainly on the introduction and conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable essay structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and the main position can be followed. Paragraphs generally group related points, and transitions such as “However,” “For instance” and “In conclusion” help signal movement. However, the overall progression is limited: the first body paragraph combines causes of global warming, recycling and reduced consumption, while the next repeats the idea of reckless resource use without developing a distinct point. Some links are unclear, particularly the connection between the Japan tsunami and the argument about consumption. Plan one paragraph for each view, then connect claims to explanations and examples; use referencing and transitions to show how each point advances the discussion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “global warming,” “harmful gases,” “recycling,” “resources” and “consumption,” and phrases such as “utilize these resources prudently” show an attempt at more formal expression. Meaning is generally understandable, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “tension for the environment,” “emphasising on recycling” and “environment problem.” Spelling errors such as “tress,” “practise” and “envirionment” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. For example, use “concern about the environment,” “emphasise recycling” and “environmental problems”; this would make your vocabulary more reliable and appropriate to the topic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “If we keep on consuming more resources … then we will be doomed,” and most ideas remain understandable. However, control is uneven, with errors in sentence construction, articles, plurals and punctuation. Examples include “Temperature in our environment is increasing” (an article is needed before “temperature”), “due to cutting down tress” (the structure after “due to” is awkward), and “displaced million of people” (plural agreement is needed). Punctuation is also inconsistent, as in “For instance. Tsunami” and missing spaces after full stops. Review these patterns and proofread sentence boundaries; more accurate complex sentences would strengthen the response.
