Student answer (Band 6.0)
A lot of people are worried about the environment and they are thinking of ways to maintain and preserve it. Most of the people are choosing recycling as a way to help the environment, while some people think that if we consume less is will be better for the environment. I believe recycling is the perfect way to preserve our environment.
On the one hand, recycling became the most common activity to help the environment as governments are encouraging people to recycle by many different ways such as putting recycling bins everywhere and providing money for every recycled plastic. Recycling is proven to be the most effective way to preserve our environment as it does not require much effort to do it. Recent studies proved that the percentage of people who are recycling has increased by 60% in the past 10 years.
On the other hand, some people believe we need to consume less, as the amount of consumption decrease, the concerns for the environment decrease. It is true that is may be effective, however, it can be difficult to control person's consumption. Government can not put limitations on people's food or cloths because it can lead to huge problems within the country. Theoretically, reducing people consumption can be very effective regarding environment preservation, but practically, it is very hard to get it done.
In conclusion, both views are quit effective for environment preservation, but one of these ways is already used and proven to be effective, and the other way is just theoretically effective and can not be implemented with out challenges. In my opinion, the most logical way to maintain our environment is by recycling our used products, which we do not need anymore.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear opinion: recycling is your preferred approach. The two body paragraphs also give relevant reasons, including government recycling schemes and the difficulty of restricting personal consumption. However, the views are not developed equally. The case for consuming less is mainly dismissed as difficult to enforce, rather than exploring how reduced demand could lower production, waste, or resource use. The recycling argument also relies on an unsupported claim that participation rose by 60%, so a concrete, credible example or explanation would strengthen it. Your conclusion restates your position, but the claim that recycling is already proven effective does not fully establish why it is preferable to reducing consumption.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the reader can identify your position. This organisation is coherent, though some connections feel mechanical and a few references are unclear. For example, “one of these ways” in the conclusion could name recycling directly, while “it” in “it can be difficult to control” has a slightly uncertain reference. To make the progression more flexible, connect each reason to its consequence and use clearer references, rather than relying mainly on standard paragraph-opening phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “recycling,” “consumption,” “limitations,” and “environment preservation,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “Theoretically” and “practically.” However, the range is limited by repeated use of “environment” and “effective,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward. For instance, “the concerns for the environment decrease” does not express the intended idea naturally, and “recycling our used products” is imprecise. Spelling and form errors such as “cloths” and “quit” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of precise terms for waste, resource use, and environmental impact, and check collocations and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a contrast clause with “while” and a conditional structure in “as the amount of consumption decrease.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “if we consume less is will be better,” “the amount … decrease,” and “Government can not put limitations,” which show problems with pronouns, subject–verb agreement, and sentence construction. There are also missing or incorrect articles and possessives, as in “control person's consumption” and “reducing people consumption.” Review these patterns and proofread sentence boundaries and punctuation. More accurate control of these structures, alongside your existing attempts at complex sentences, would make the response clearer.
