Student answer (Band 4.5)
IT IS OFTEN ARGUED THAT ENVIROMENT IS GROWING AND MORE PEOPLE ARE CHOOSING TO RECYCLE. OTHER, HOWEVER BELEIVE THAT RECYCLING IS NOT ENOUGH, WE NEED TO CONSUME LESS. THIS ESSAY WILL DISCUSS BOTH PERSPECTIVES BEFORE PRESENTING MY OWN OPINION.
ON THE ONE HAND, THERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS WHY PEOPLE SUPPORT THIS VIEW THAT WE ARE CONSUMING BUT PEOPLE ALSO RECYCLING THEM LIKE THEY START USING PAPER OR CLOTHS BAG IN ORDER TO RECYCLE. ONE MAIN REASON IS THAT RECYCLING IS VERY ESSENTIAL BECAUSE IT CLEANS OUR ENVIROMENT. THIS MEANS THAT WE CAN REDUCE THE GLOBEL WARMING, PEOPLE STARTS SERVING IN RECYCLEABLE CUTLERY, IN ADDITION, THERE ARE SOME AREAS IN WORLD THEY CLEAN ALL THE AREA SURROUNDING BY THEM AND THROW THE GARBAGE IN LISTED BINS, THIS HELPS TO MAKE ENVIROMENT CLEAN AND GOOD TO CONSUME EVERTHING THEY WANT.
ON THE OTHER HAND, MANY PEOPLE ARGUE THAT RECYCLING IS NOT HAPPENING AND THEY SHOULD CONSUME LESS. THIS VIEW IS BASED ON THE BELIEF THAT COSUMING LESS WILL HELP, IF PEOPLE CONSUME LESS THEN NO NEED TO WORRY ANOUT RECYCLING. AS A RESULT PEOPLE WILL NOT GOING TO SURVIVE, THEY WILL NOT MAKE THEMSELVES HAPPY, THERE IS CHANCES OF TENSION AND ANXIETY BECAUSE OF HUNGER. AS SCHOOLS SHOULD START TEACHING ABOUT RECYCLNG AND USE OF RECYCLABLE MATERIAL FROM YOUNG AGE, THIS WILL HELP US AND KEEP THE ENVIROMENT CLEAN.
IN CONCLUSION, ALTHOUGHT BOTH VIEWS HAVE THEIR OWN MERITS, I BELEIVE, THAT SCHOOL STARTS ACTIVITIES TO KEEP THE CHILDERNS AWARE ABOUT THE SITUATION MOREOVER, GOVERNMENT SHOULD ALSO STARTS CAMPAINGE AND SUPPLY PRODUCTS IN RECYCLEABLE MATERIAL. OVERALL, THIS APPROACH IS MORE BENIFICIAL IN THE LONG TERM

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You introduce both views and state that you will give your opinion, so the response recognises the main parts of the question. However, the discussion is only partially developed and some points do not clearly answer the issue. The recycling paragraph mentions reusable bags, cutlery and bins, but the explanation that recycling “cleans our environment” and reduces global warming is broad and not supported with a clear example. The consumption paragraph raises hunger and anxiety as consequences of consuming less, but this is asserted rather than explained and does not distinguish essential consumption from wasteful consumption. Your conclusion favours school activities and government campaigns, yet it does not clearly resolve whether recycling or reducing consumption should be the priority. Develop each view with a relevant reason and a specific example, then state your position directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable essay structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted with “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. These paragraph breaks help the reader identify the intended discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and several ideas are joined without showing their relationship. For example, the recycling paragraph moves from reusable bags to global warming, then to cleaning areas and bins, without a clear sequence. The phrase “As schools should start teaching…” also appears abruptly in the paragraph about consuming less. Some linking expressions, including “In addition” and “As a result,” do not accurately connect the ideas that follow. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, explain it, and use linking words only when their logical relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “recycle,” “environment,” “global warming,” “recyclable material,” and “tension and anxiety,” which helps establish the subject. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and inaccurate word choice or spelling sometimes makes meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “serving in recycleable cutlery,” “consuming but people also recycling them,” and “products in recycleable material”; these phrases do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also repeated misspellings such as “enviroment,” “globel,” “beleive,” and “campaign.” Aim for precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe people as “using reusable cutlery” and products as “made from recyclable materials,” rather than relying on repeated forms of “recycle.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentences and use basic complex structures, such as “because…” and “if people consume less…,” as well as a clear introductory statement. However, the range remains limited, and frequent errors in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement and punctuation can distort meaning. For example, “people starts serving” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “they will not going to survive” combines verb forms incorrectly. The opening sentence also joins contrasting ideas with “Other, however believe…” without a complete, well-formed structure. Several sentences run together or contain unclear clause relationships, particularly in the first body paragraph. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; check that each subject has the correct verb form and that each sentence is properly punctuated.
